Hi,

Silly question here. I'm planning to change 2 of the tyres for my persona. Could anyone recommend the brand along with the size?

Preferably one around the range of rm200-300.

Thanks in advance =)

Rm200-300 per tyre can get almost any type and brand of tyre....variety a lot...
what size are u using? stock size?
recently there have been a few members who's been praising the NT8000 tyres wit its AA grade. (check earlier posts.)

personally im using a pair of dunlop formula d 01's which brand new is about rm180 paired with yokohama A drives which brand new is about Rm2++ and am having a lot of fun at the moment.

I'm currently using the stock size, 195/60R15

I'm not really familiar with tyres in general blush.gif . It'll be good if the tyre is less than rm250. I'm only planning to change 2 of the tyres as one of it has a crack.

What is your definition of fun? Haha. I'm just using the car for normal driving on highway, not racing or drifting or anything.

P.S. I just recently skidded on the way back from Nilai to Shah Alam at one of the turnings connecting back to the KLIA road. In my opinion, I don't think I was speeding and this has never happened to me before. Although the road was wet as it had just finished raining.

Edit: My friend recommended me Michelin, although I'm not sure which type nor size. Just wanted to gather more opinions from other people.

where is your location?
what stock tyre are you using?
i basically would prefer to have 4 same tyres to have a fair review on tyres.
recently the Neuton is recommended for its cheap price + gripping. if not mistaken is RM190 per piece.
michelin is good but somehow we do think that it is a bit overpriced.

I am currently working in Seremban for a few days but over the weekends I will be around Klang Valley. So if there are any reasonable tyre shops in Seremban, I wouldn't mind buying new tyres here.

2 of my tyres are blackbird another 2 are goodyear. I'm planning to replace the goodyears cos it has a crack in it.

The newton would be the NT8000 I assume? Yes, I agree. I'm holding back on getting the Michelin cos of its price.

Okay, call me a noob but I just found out Neuton NT8000 doesn't have the stock size (195/60/15). Seeing as all 4 of my tyres are stock size and I'm only changing 2 of them, I wouldn't wanna risk running different size tyres on my car.

I see some persona users have changed the stock tyre to 195/55/15 instead. Are there a lot of differences between the 195/60/15 and 195/55/15?

Now my options are either:

1. Change all 4 tyres

2. Grab another brand with the stock size

Some advice would be much appreciated icon_question.gif My knowledge about cars is very limited.

Thank you very much in advance.

Same width, different thickness.
Can change to 195/55R15 as some member here such as junhowe and mosh. Only thing is the gap between the top of tyre and the wheel arch will be bigger
since it is smaller thickness than 195/60R15.

I'm not very worried about visuals. But what about in terms of comfort and stability (grip)?

QUOTE(iskazulka @ Nov 28 2012, 03:17 PM)
that's correct.
if u richfag, change all 4 tyres.
if u poorfag, grab another brand with the stock size, change 2 tyres first. take out the front one. take the back tyres to the front. then install new tyres at back. later on, change the front tyres lah.
*
I'm definitely poorfag. Hahah. Btw, I thought normally new tyres are installed at the front?

QUOTE(jasonloh7906 @ Nov 28 2012, 03:19 PM)
thats what i realised too. but, IINM, they had stocked in new size which is our tyre size. should go ask.
hahaha~~
lol. give me one more year. until my tyre wear out XD
had been driving aggressively to make it wear out. but somehow, the kumho seems to be very good in receiving abuse.

Bro, ask those fellas with the tyres size leh.  sweat.gif
New tyres put at back since if anything happen you can still control the front tyres with your steering. Your back tyres how to control?
*
Haha. Sorry blush.gif . I thought you changed the stock tyre size as well. Well, you have a point about the new tyres being at the rear.

But what about emergency break and acceleration performance? Would the front tyres do better?

QUOTE(Cavino @ Nov 28 2012, 04:02 PM)
Changing our stock size 195/60/R15 to 195/55/R15 is a big no no. Main reason is the size difference exceeded 3% guideline of tyre diameter size difference that might cause failure to your braking system. Practically all tyre experts advise against it. But some still goes for it....if nothing happens, then all its goods but the risk of failure supposedly increased exponentially once exceeded this limit....unless they mod their braking system as well.

I assume you're satisfied with current size (for me it has the perfect balance of comfort and good non aggressive performance) on stock suspension. If yes, I would advise using back the same tyre size albeit having very limited choice in tyres. Also anything above 55 is considered non performance tyre, so my initial choice of PS3, V12, Neuton etc all can baling longkang liao. If want those good tyres....change the size....205/55/R15 will be a good bet at 1.4% difference if you want to stay on 15"...

Do note lowering the height 60 to 55 will decrease the comfort level, more bumpiness. Grip will be better due to wider tyres but more makan minyak since more road contact.

I'm leaning towards Yokohama C-Drive 2 for stock size although it has louder noise issue in its later life but wet and drive performance has no complain so far by the users. Michelin XM2 is ok but pricey tho. CC5......not so great nowadays compared with the other 2. So thats abt the only good choice you have if you stay with stock.

Thank you very much for your explanation! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

I definitely won't be changing the stock size then.

Based on what you've said I guess I will go for the Yokohama C-Drive 2 then. On a sidenote, is the higher price for the Michelin XM2 worth the additional benefits that come with the tyre? (I assume there are additional benefits if I'm paying extra right?) haha.

so sad. so its time to change to sport rims 16-17" as well XD
new tyres are installed at front because we are having grips and acceleration from the front. our car are more prone to understeering, if front no grip, higher understeering, the worst, you steer and your car just move straight on. however, if you have new tyres in front and botak tyres at the back, you have no understeering, but most probably you will powerslides or spin. if i am having 80% thread at the rear and my front tyre crack, i will just put the new one at the front. bcoz, eventually the front tyres threadwear will be so fast that you suddenly realised that the front new tyre have lesser thread than the rear. if on tight budget when it is due to change 4 tyres but can only afford 2, then it is of coz wiser to put the new behind unless you are very good in driving sideways.

Thanks for the explanation notworthy.gif . You've been very helpful.

I guess I'll be going for either the Yokohama C-Drive 2 or the Michelin XM2.
