Greetings peeps! My first ever PC worklog in my life! Story behind the build Two months ago, I was cleaning up my storeroom and I'd stumbled upon my ancient rig. I've no idea when did I bought it, but I do recall the last time I had ever used it was 6 years ago back in year 2006. Since then I'd shifted to huge laptops and ultra-portables. Here's how it looks like: yea...its quite..."fancy"...I was at "that" age that time... Internals: Nothing great, just a typical p4 system. After that, I went logging into my bank account to check if there is any sufficient funds avail for a makeover. Since thers some extra $$, I'd started going back and forth from my lazy chair and my pc doing the day dreaming and googling for inspiration(this is the keyword to my plan! "inspiration"). The build: i) Hardware: Mobo: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z CPU: AMD FX-8350 ~ 4.0GHz / 8-core GPU: ASUS HD7970 DirectCU ll TOP CrossFire RAM: MUSHKIN Redline DDR3-1866 4GB x 4 Storage: MUSHKIN Chronos 120GB SSD RAID PSU: Seasonic Platinum Series 1000W Desk! (the case) : Vector PROTOTYPE 00 ii) Water-cooling parts: CPU block: EK-Supremacy - Nickel Plexi CSQ GPU blocks: 2x EK-FC7970 DCII - Acetal+EN (Nickel) with EK FC Link Dual Parallel set RAM block: EK-RAM Dominator X4 - Nickel Plexi CSQ Reservoirs: 2x EK-RES X3 Radiators: 2x EK-CoolStream RAD XTX 480 Pumps: 2x Laing D5-MCP655 Vario with EK-D5 X-TOP Acetal and Bitspower D5/MCP655 MOD KIT and of course, lotsa Bitspower fittings! iii) Accessories: 1x KOOLANCE CTR-SPD12X2 Dual 12V Pump Controller 2x LAMTRON FC9 Fan Controllers Multi-colored LEDs with remote 14x CM XtraFlo fans 2x Water Temp digital display The idea was "lotsa customization", "lotsa work from scratch" and "big machinery involved". So I did some ugly sketching on some A4 papers and went ahead and ordered a few pieces of 2.5mm aluminium plates! Once those alu plates arrives, I took my rig, do some cutting, some spray paint, screw everything back into position...and...thrash it Bout what I did with those plates continues on 3rd post (I'm pretty bad in planning story plot, so I'll be reserving 2nd post for just in case stuff) This post has been edited by vahn87: Dec 20 2012, 06:06 PM |

Okey, lets cut to the chase, my build caught AMD interest, so we got in touch and they agreed to assist my project with their flagship 8 cores chip! Since the pioneer of this desk build is based on Intel build, so I think there should be a AMD build for their users out there too! Thus...AMD it is! And since PC Fair is just around the corner, if things goes fast enough, AMD wants to feature my work at their booth I'll try my best to build something worth the time for you all to checkout coming PC Fair and see the desk for yourself.
Now that the CPU is done, next up would be parts to push the chip to its optimal performance. In regards to this, I immediately thought of ASUS, their ROG theme is just perfect for my desk. Being black and red mostly which is easy to do color matching. So...again, I got in touch with ASUS rep. Juan Chong, some of you may refer him with his LYN ID Sanko. Very friendly, a tad too crazy on PC stuff and not forgetting to mention gave me tremendous help in getting me in touch with parties who are able to assist me and provide insight on the hardwares. Seasonic too decided to jump along into the boat! Therefore, as of now, here are the current Sponsors for my newly named Vector Prototype 00 Deskbuild Sponsors CPU Mainboard & GPU RAM & Storage PSU This post has been edited by vahn87: Dec 5 2012, 01:05 PM |

So what I did with those aluminium plates?
I was too excited with the plannings the moment they reaches me, so I'd forgotten to snap pics, neway, they look like this image which I'd just stolen from the world wide web Yeah, they're that huge, 3' x 4'. Any guess what I'm up to? Utilizing my background in welding and my networks in the welding industry, I managed to pull some strings, owing favors to all the seniors who I made contact with in the past. AFAIK many years back, welding aluminium was sooo freggin rare in Malaysia, but today!....it is still...freggin rare...and most of them isn't interested in small scale project like mine... So, with favors from my contacts, I got those plates hooked up onto a laser cutter! and yes, I was too excited again and I'd forgotten to do the snappings. Anyway, the process looks no different than this laser cut pizza. After that, it went to the bending machine and welding works comes afterwards. Btw, all this works was done in the middle of the night cause during daytime, the factory has to be on schedule for their other continuous production. Few days of midnight oil...so...here's the result!!! That wasn't me! I'm the cameraman, so that wasn't my hand. That wasn't me either, I only knows how to weld stainless steel and other crappy steels. Sad seeing it thrown at the side just like that...the factory is huge and I'm no boss there It's pretty self explanatory what my plan is... So, why am I doing this? well...I'm a male...alil techie...thats all the reason needed for us to go crazee in PCs, no???!!! Still lotsa drilling and cuttings need to be done, but I can't do them cause I've no hardwares on hand to do the measurements... So, I'll be sending it for power coating first and do all the minor moddings at my own place later. Chose to coat it first cause its kinda bulky to transport around. Only left minor moddings which shouldn't affect much on the finishing. Thanks for viewing, till next time! This post has been edited by vahn87: Nov 26 2012, 01:19 PM |

2 great news today! The first one, it has something to do with AMD...glad I reserved 2nd post for "just in case" stuff. So for more info on this, you know where to go
The second news is, powder coating is done and I'd went and collected my precious noon earlier Tried my best taking watever images I can. Here's 2 images of the factory that did the powder coating, nothing interesting. And here's the desk! Fresh from the oven...oops, it should be from the lorry since its already at my place. edit: those are not its legs, I'd yet to visit the drawing board for its legs lol Tearing the wraps Quality wise, its perfect, nice, smooth and all. Just that theres certain spots of imperfections due to welding corrections that is done due to minor mistake in measurements. Why thers a huge cut there you say? Cause its a side panel! or I should call it a bottom panel? Brass spacer can be added to either increase cable management spacing / turn it into air intake vent. Maybe I should change the whole cover to a dust filter? This post has been edited by vahn87: Nov 25 2012, 02:09 AM |

the cost for this desk = favors from my friends
as for the cost to manufacture 1 unit, most probly no factory will entertain such small project. |

QUOTE(owikh84 @ Nov 27 2012, 12:50 PM) Thank you for the support!I am actually considering to open up orders for it in future if there is demand, but its kinda hard to keep the price low and affordable unless there's significant MOQ Most probably need to preinstall customized hardwares according to user preference too because its quite tough for DIY and pre-cut holes will limits the potential of this desk. |

Hi all, been quite busy looking for parts to complete the build.
As I've mentioned in my first post the keyword to my plan was "inspiration", I thought it was rather self explanatory what I was going to do when the images of the desk being posted up. Perhaps I wasn't being transparent enough for those who're not aware of l3pd3sk/redharbringer. Well, since Peter himself posted a comment here, I think its pretty obvious where my inspiration comes from! @Peter, your work indeed inspired me to make a desk on my own and I'm glad that I did not disappoint you with my work. I'll continue to hope that the final build will impress you too thou it may not be as great as your work at RH! I believe many of us here at Malaysia are a fan of your work including me! Hasn't been able to much lately...
DIY 5.25 bay without precision machinery = headache + muscle ache. Lucky I've some faulty optical drive hidden in my storeroom for measurements. spent whole night only managed to do this... time to cut hole for i/o panel, glad that I made it removable some parts arrived, will try to hook it up by today 7 days left for PC FAIR!!! kinda worried looking at my current progress now, crossing my fingers that I'll make it in time... PROTOTYPE 00 in some other color theme: Blue! Green! Teal? White! Purp! Kay, there's too many color for me to take a pic for each of them. So, this should be the end of this worklog. If there is anyone interested in owning one like this, feel free to drop me a PM or a message through facebook (my siggy). *yes, that's my old 24" screen, gonna get new ones soon, still in dilemma between 3x 23" or 1x 27" |

QUOTE(infernoaswen @ Dec 27 2012, 11:54 PM) Going bigger usually isn't an issue, however, if to make it smaller, it will require some minor design modifications to ensure your comfortableness while using the desk. For instance, the middle spacing for your legs Basically, we offer full customization and advice accordingly on the design proposed. Going with the designs in our hand would be the best of course, we've several options currently. |

QUOTE(infernoaswen @ Dec 28 2012, 01:48 PM) what is the table size currently? height, width, lengh... The current table size is roughly 1500mm x 700mm. As for height, they're can be customized without much issue/cost involved. Seems interesting since I am planning to change table...but quite expensive haha...maybe in future If you compare it to a premium case and a good desk, this will most probably cost the same. So why not paying for a 2.5mm fully aluminium desk with tempered glass as the top? The multi color LED with remote comes with it too |
