i assume u now have 1.0.6 non emmc china version.

to get to the folder to place an advancedsetting.xml file, u can't get there with file manager. u need an app called es file explorer, which can be found with playstore. however, that firmware u got, think playstore is not there. so, u need to get the apk from elsewhere (google to it) into usb drive, install it via file manager.

with es explorer, u first need to click tools, show all files. if not, some files will remain hidden.

then u copy the advancedsettings.xml file from usb (sd1) and paste (overwrite if there is already same file name) onto the right folder with this path:
/sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata

i had initially used this xml file on xbmc 12.3 in 1.0.6 non-emmc china on a q5ii non-emmc. not perfect but there is good improvement:
now, i use this one copied from 1.0.6 emmc eng in a q5ii emmc.
u can try both, pretty sure 2nd file works better. q5ii emmc and non-emmc, i now hv both running xbmc 12.3 smoothly, no crashing, minimal lagging with hd. any q5ii user not getting that is missing a lot!

Nope, i dont have the 1.0.5 english firmware anymore. Have tried to flash and return to original but fail and now i realize that i couldnt get back . Is there a firmware link some where i could download it or i have to seek the seller back ?

i would suggest just expose the seller out for poor services and to help others . majority will pressure them a bit. Lets stick together and make them heard. It's because of our poor respond to this , they are not keen to come in. Bulk of their buyers were also from Lowyat.
it's just that we were busy with the technicial stuff but we need to fight back as we paid with hard earned cash.

for non-emmc models, going back to 1.0.4 eng is not a bad idea since it works ok.
only thing is the normal xbmc isn't going to work with 720dd/dts or 1080p streaming.
and i think there is no mangotv in it.

for my non-emmc unit, i continued with 1.0.6 china but manually installed the hiplayer xbmc 12.2 version from the 1.0.6 emmc eng.
this versions works fine overall with all 720 or 1080.
of course, no playstore...

after so long, i fear they may not come out with 1.0.6 non-emmc eng... maybe go straight to 1.0.7?
my experience with another intl media player manufacturer is once the old chipset gets too little demand, they will not bother to upgrade the firmware. 2 years is a good bet. How old are the non emmc models now? 1, 1.5yrs?
