Everything in android is APK. they are applications come in packages with the extension .apk. in odexed ROM, there is another type of file with the extension .odex. They are essentially parts of an application that are optimized before booting. It is said to speed up the boot process
The catch here is u cannot modify the apk freely because of the conflicting odex files

On the contrary, deodexed rom allows users to completely customize an apk without worrying about odex files. Deodexed means all pieces of an application arerepackaged back in one place

the topic on battery life is always very very subjective. How you use your phone may differ a lot from other users.
from what ive observed so far and using mobile data as reference (wifi saves too much juice, no point mentioning), 15-18 hrs with 4-5hrs screen on(6+, maybe) is the average life on a single charge..

weather update (30m interval), Greader(9 feeds, 1hr interval),
whatsapp, facebook, facebook messenger, twitter, google +

GPS, Location 24/7

the only thing i turn off is location reporting. i find this too battery consuming

p/s waiting for samsung to release 4.1.2 so that i can customize pulldown notifications. i wana add nfc/sbeam toggle lol ....

placebo effect hit me immediately after i flashed NEAK kernel-not an uncommon phenomenon
played around and felt something wasn't right. Deleted all init.d scripts and rebooted...
installed uNEAK engine and enabled GAME Mode for even more placebo...

my brain is still very much clouded by it.... shall let the system chew away the RAM as i use my phone and see how it will fare in terms of balance between smoothness and battery life

U can turn it on in the pull down notification.... It has a global function.. auto sync in gmail is enabled by default
