Modern Warfare 4 will be the next Call of Duty title and will release next year, according to a report by Siliconera.
Activision releases a new game in the Call of Duty franchise each year with a Modern Warfare title coming every other year since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare launched in 2007. According to the report, the company is hard at work in Los Angeles recording voiceovers for their next game.
Although the game does not have an official title, it is said to be taking place in the same universe as Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare titles. Series star John “Soap” MacTavish is featured in the game during a flashback sequence, the report says.
A new star for the franchise will also come into play. He will be a “battle hardened veteran in his mid-thirties with a nihilistic point of view.” Of course, any rumor such as this has to be taken as merely a rumor. No information has been confirmed. However, the source of the leak is the same one responsible for providing information on Sleeping Dogs to the site over a year before it released. Those leaked details proved to be true.
The Modern Warfare franchise was widely expected to have ended with the release of Modern Warfare 3 last year. If the rumor holds true, it would seem as if Activision decided it would be too risky to turn the page on the franchise. It would be tough to blame them for that decision but it’s disappointing to see a lack of creativity. The latest game in the Call of Duty franchise is Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. It released on Tuesday and surpassed $1 million in sales during the midnight launch at GameStop alone. This broke records as the biggest release since the last Call of Duty game. Seemingly every year, a new Call of Duty game comes out and breaks previous sales records.
