Ahhhh speaking of shoes and Bont .. went to a bike swap meet the other day and there was this Bont A3 for sale, open box. It was 44.5 EU UK 10. Tried it on and it was really ngam ngam fit without much room. The sides felt a bit tight though. I usually wear UK 10/11 depending on the cut coz I got wide feet. Usually if buy sports shoes will look for 4E width (New Balance). I'm now thinking of getting cycling shoes and have been looking around. Tried shimano and it was really tight especially at the sides, only size 47 EU I can shove my wide feet in but there was so much gap between the toes and tip of the shoe.

Any brand recommendation that is known for people with wide feet ? Also some say the stiffer is better but for someone starting out is going really stiff a good thing ? I assume the feet will take time to get used to the stiffness nod.gif

There's currently Bont sale online with 30% off, so tempting but so dangerous to buy without knowing for sure what my size is. Some ppl bought it based on the online calculator and it still came out not so perfect and was a tight fit. rclxub.gif

Q1 - usually ur hands get tired and loses the strength to pull hte brakes, quicker than the brake to lose its grip. this happened to me when i descended genting. there was a bit of brake fade. but not much.

Q2 - i've only seen this happen once. years back. a rider was in the slipstream of tanker truck. going high speed (for a bike). and his bike wobbled violently, and stabilized when he stopped pedalling and slowed down. he didn't pull the brakes

Q3 - normally u don't shift gears whilst standing
*
Thanks. Now trying to read up more on speed wobble and hopefully, it's something I only read about and not experience.

QUOTE(mrjgx @ Dec 24 2012, 11:14 AM)
dude..shoes for wide feet people is Bont. I am wide footed myself. Make sure you choose the wide version, there will be 'W' at the sizing specs to indicate it is the wide version..I use Bont A-two...and it has plenty of space for my wide forefoot. It is the only shoe where you can find the shape is wide starting from the toe, very unconventional. Other shoes will have a pointy shape towards your middle finger. (feet)

It's quite stiff, on a longer ride I'll had a numbness on my left foot..perhaps not moulded properly enough...just give it a try. mine is Europe 45 W
*
I've also read about people have numbness doing long rides in cycling shoes. Is this due to improper fit or more conditioning ? Thanks for the sizing guide, will visit LBS first to try it out.

QUOTE(miaopurr @ Dec 24 2012, 11:19 AM)
cycling shoes supposed to be ngam2

*
thanks for the video. Makes more sense now.

QUOTE(butthead @ Dec 24 2012, 12:00 PM)
knowledge that it should stop is not to be taken for granted... no super late braking...pls
the wobble will happen whether it is 30, 40 or 70kph... so, it is just luck if you wanna call it if it hits you...

best is not to force shift and dump massive loads of gear at one go while applying heavy loads onto the drivetrain...

*
yes, definitely no last minute braking. Still getting used to the speed downhill. Manage to hit 50+ kmh without much drama except for the fear of not being able to stop in case of an emergency.

QUOTE(butthead @ Dec 24 2012, 12:11 PM)

working near a bike shop is not dangerous... having no self control on the other hand is...
*
hahaha that's so true. Luckily I've managed to hold back for so long while waiting for Xmas sale laugh.gif

I only wanted to buy lube/degreaser cause I wanted to give the bike a good wash but the whole product range was sold as a package and was 35% off. So decided to pamper the bike this xmas biggrin.gif

if u deflate and pinch the tyre, can u see the nylon casing? if not, nothing to be worried about
*
have deflated the tyres and it's on surface cuts not too deep, so I guess should be ok to continue using it.

Did my first group ride today and had an awesome time though I wasn't confident enough to follow too close to suck other people's wheel cry.gif Certain stretch of the road we had to go single file and the cross winds was crazy so being in a group didn't make much difference at all. Also did my furthest ride so far, 42km. Only difference I personally felt during group ride is I didn't really feel the distance and was good to talk with someone along the way. Definitely going to do a lot more rides next year and slowly but surely increase the distance and eventually speed. Also hope to get some cycling shoes next month and get used to having cleats, hopefully won't have any embarrassing moments stopping at the traffic lights blush.gif

One thing I noticed is that some of the guys when they coast the freehub ?? noise is extremely loud .. how come/why ? different brand/model etc ?

Hello everyone .. happy new year, better late than never rclxms.gif Was away for the new year and now back to work wondering when the next holiday will be whistling.gif

Finally manage to go to a LBS with Bont shoes and tried numerous pairs in all type of sizes. Conclusion is, they don't really fit me cry.gif Left foot is longer than right but right foot wider than left rclxub.gif Size 47 was just nice for me but after 10 mins in them my right foot/toes started feeling numb sweat.gif plus they only have vaypour in stock which costs a bomb and certainly not within my budget despite them offering it for a really awesome price.

Attached Image

Ended up getting bontrager race dlx shoes which fit me perfectly despite it being only size 46. Was in them for 20 mins and didn't feel any numbness and they were really snug. rclxm9.gif

The LBS i went to were also renting out Trek Madone 3.1 bikes and I took one for a spin. Ended up doing 26km and didn't even realise it. The bike though not being that much lighter than my own alu bike felt a lot more responsive and easier to ride, much more compliant as well. It had bontrager wheels and 105 groupset. Really enjoyed riding it, despite it being a rental bike and probably not in excellent condition.

Have yet to attach the pedals and try out the shoes. Waiting for the weekend to come. Can't wait to feel the difference, in the mean time will have to practice clipping in/out and hopefully not forget to do it when coming to a stop blush.gif

ahhaha I hope so too .. definitely want to avoid the embarrassing kind

QUOTE(butthead @ Jan 8 2013, 10:32 AM)
race DLX?? never heard of it before.. not even in the bont site...maybe only specific for australia...

if you have molded the shoe.. it might have helped out with your problem...but then again, it's not the shoe you want...you might have felt numb because it is struggling against the sides of the composites tub... molding it will forces the sides to expand or widen to fit your toes...

vaypor is just sold for lightness, it is a plain waste of money
*
finally got myself bontrager race dlx shoes .. not bont. Yeah it's the sides that was feeling cramped and it was at the widest part of the foot not toes.

hey bikers! New here and recently I'm interested to grab myself a bike and we all know how this is going to end, "Which bike should I get for beginner?" Now, I've decided not to drive car to office anymore instead cycle to office since it's really close by so would you all please recommend me a few? THANKS! biggrin.gif

having a budget in mind definitely helps to narrow down the choices and ultimately depends on what kinda bike you want road (race geometry), hybird, commuter with panniers etc

SRAM Red 2012 or older one?

Have never seen a CAAD10 equipped like that over here in stock form. It must have been upgraded by the owner i think.  It will not be cheap for a lightweight alloy bike. Expect at least RM9k and above since the Red would have costed at least RM5k over here when new and you have Ergonova bars which is another RM300-Rm400 bucks.

The wheel is a bit surprising though based on how the bike is equipped.
if purely commuting... your question is... are you allowed to bring your bike into the office? is lrt part of your journey? are you going to be able to stand leaving your  bike away from you?

*
No idea what year the groupset is. I assume it's 2012 model since the bike is fairly new. Owner probably keeping the better wheelset for the next bike or to reduce the cost while trying to sell it. Bike was sold for AUD 1.8k drool.gif

it doesn't look like this years bike ... not sure bout last year though...

if you said it is still fairly new like 5 to 6 months old.. then get it (if you do not intend to get a carbon bike and the size is right)... no point thinking... it is not possible to be priced at AUD1.8k which is under RM6k if my calculation is correct?

a model equipped with Rival is already priced more than that, 2k USD when new
http://www.cannondale.com/2013/bikes/road/...double-crankset

so, it is a matter of whether if you will get tempted to buy a carbon after getting this...

It's old Sram Red btw looking at the crank...the SRAM Red when new would have taken up the entire portion of the price he is selling...

here's the listing for the bike and more pics

caad 10

Was looking out for a bike for a friend who had a budget of aud 1.6k .. sadly was outbid for this item .. definitely would make an awesome buy though. cry.gif
