The cashback will be credited on end of following month. Eg spending on December, will get cashback on end of January (but i got on 2nd February). For november i got end of December.

From their TnC;
10. Cashback will be rewarded with the 5% Cashback based on the eligible Online Retail Purchases at the end
of each calendar month and will be credited by the end of the next calendar month to the Eligible Customer’s
Promotion Account

yes you are right. no need to keep 3k, just transfer 3k once and spend 1k (to get max cashback rm50).

Anyone here tried to open HSBC Bank account thru website?

They allow to sign up thru online and proceed to branch for completing the process.

Does the bank staff asked many questions since it's considered a foreign bank

I tried, filled up the required details on the website, went to their self verification machine at the branch for self verification, the machine stated successful verification but didn't provide me the new bank account number as promised, couldn't do it at the counter because it was on weekend, also didn't contact me as promised too, in the end I gave up.

I heard some did the same and went to the branch counter, got turned away because the staff asked bunch of questions and required employment letter and such, a complete waste of time.

I did try also, then proceed to atm for verification. But my thumbprint always got problem, so it did not work. Then go to counter to meet the officier.

Told her that my thumbprint did not work, She accompany me to the atm to verify if it really did not work. Not many question asked aside from the usual question; purpose of opening. And she did inform me hsbc do regularly check account for fraud etc and might receive call if any suspicious activity.

I guess it depends on which branch, i always lucky got entertain by friendly bank officer (except that one time in CIMB klang), the branch with new or nicer and comfortable interior usually have friendlier staff.
