hi guys, i've just got my new S3 and have been fiddling with it for the past few days.

one thing that annoys me most about this phone currently is the contact list. I have been searching on the forum how i do it but to no avail.

the thing is, u know how there are many contact list you can view and sync. I have added my hotmail, gmail and also yahoo mail on it. So i'm assuming that the phone contact will be the main contact that I will be using. but I have been trying to find out how can i sync my phone contact with my gmail that i have ported all my contacts from.
or is there any way i can sync all my contacts all the time?

after i gotten this phone i have added several new friend's number and i just realised that if i add it on my phone contact, i have to manually add it to my gmail account... :~(

I've seen that before but he dont say how can we do all the syncing.
basically what i'm trying to achieve/ask here is, is there a way for me to constantly sync my phone list to my gmail/hotmail list automatically? instead of creating a same contact in both phone and gmail contact and linking them together

Following those steps, every time I add or delete a contact, it is stored in my gmail contacts. Unless I don't have internet connection during the edit.

if i store/edit/delete my contacts under gmail's contact list then yes it syncs automatically with gmail contact in cloud.
but if i were to edit my contact under the phone's contact list then it doesnt work

nope. it syncs both ways. give it time. for example if u add a new contact on your phone, then try to sync immediately, the sync won't affect yet (look at the time stamp. if the time stamp still not updated to "now" then the sync has not occurred although it went through the motions). in about 30 minutes or so, sync it again. its like that i guess, coz the server first need to make preperation and all those jazz before it is ready to sync.

ahh...thanks for the info. let me just leave it for a while and see what happens.
Does that mean wherever i add new contacts, it will sync to all my contact list?
ie. if i add "abu" to my gmail, it will sync to my phone contact?

Yes. it's both ways. Sync is both ways. Btw make sure your contacts sync is setup in settings.

1. do a sync.
2. look at the timestamp of the sync (goto settings -> accounts (google) -> your gmail entry -> sync contacts
3. check if your timestamp is "Now". if it is not "now" than that's the problem (but i dono the solution).
4. if it is "now" than u should have done a succesful sync. your contacts on your phone should be now in gmail contacts in the cloud. if not i not sure why either.

do the above steps first.

Bro Ramz,
Thanks so much for the assistance. If i'm not wrong, i think i know where you are coming from.
If i put my contact entries on my gmail contact list on my phone, then yes it will appear in cloud on my gmail.
But because in this S3, there are several contact list that you can use as your phone's contact list.
So for example, if i open my contacts>menu>contacts to display,
I have -All contacts, Phone, Sim, Whatsapp,Hotmail, Gmail, etc.
When i want to save a contact number, i have an option to save it under Phone, Sim, Hotmail, Gmail.
So if i save it in 'Phone', then it doesnt appear on my Gmail. If i save it under Gmail, then it doesnt appear on 'Phone'

I'm not sure how you guys manages your contact list but i find this very annoying. The only way i can think of to backup or 'sync' between Phone list and Gmail list is to export my phone list periodically and import it back to Gmail every now and then.

just set your phone display you gmail account... once you update you phone it will auto update your gmail. if your phone display it will display you phone contact number in the phone storage. once you update it will update phone stroage only. it will not sync  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

i think he/she put display on phone not display on gmail account.. that why got sync problem  biggrin.gif

ya bro TamiyaOne is correct. So i have been using my phone storage as primary contact storage.
If you look at the attachment, one shows all the places i can place my contact and another shows all my accounts.
In there you can see there's a 'Phone' option whereby it only saves my contact on the phone itself and not anywhere else.

Bro TamiyaOne, does that mean that you disregard the 'Phone' option entirely and solely using Gmail as primary contact list? Is there any limitation to that?

i thought it could be real one and it could be a mod on the display. but considering that guy only used it for 1 month. how much can he play with it. furthermore he say he havent claim warranty cos no receipt, its already a suspicious statement.

and china goods tend to have high contrast display with their electronics.
