that's the problem for me. because of the lengthy thread (20++ pages), somehow not confident if I would miss out anything (though I know that TS will update it). Bricked my friend's phone once, wouldn't want to brick on my own S3.

well, not that I want to be spoon-fed. I actually followed this thread for some time already. I only did not ask questions up to now because was busy with exams when I just got my phone. Now that I'm already done with exams, I'm basically free!!! Got one month left of freedom before going to Germany to study engineering.

So now I just want to use this opportunity to fully maximise my phone. Thanks for helping. And I know this is a question repeated 9999 times already, but I still need to install KIES and backup anything from my phone? Rooting won't do any harm to my data right?

if its your first time flashing, you need to use odin no matter what.
once you get CWM instead of stock recovery..
