It depends
a Celeron is a Celeron , its just nice if you're getting a budget notebook , just for basic stuff. Pentium-M is the way to go if you're doing "heavy" jobs on your lappie. Thats it Its simple , two factors :- Price or Preformance |

@Tainted, y dun go for compaq AMD turion based? it's best bang for bucks overall, provided u accept 2-3hours battery life..
if u r really on tight budget, celeron M is just enuf for u based on the usage u describe, just remember u hv to get at least 768mb ram for today's programs.. twinhead is definitely out, they r on VIA or SIS chipset which is slow and worst in gaming.. no idea y u shift out amd from ur choice, izzit really tht bad? one more year when win vista come out, ur laptop cant play with it liao if u r not choosing turion or core duo |

Take the pentium. A celeron is miles behind at the same clock speed if u do any gaming.

m-life hyundai although is 3 years warranty but the quality is still in doubt...
i still recommend u to acer or compaq or toshiba or IBM for celeron models. as the price not much diff on this models. cache diff is depends on ur usage, if u have 2MB cache, but mostly u just use for office work or movie or music then is a waste as 2MB cache serve the purpose for image editing, or can say more to multimedia tasking. if u have adequate RAM that match with the speed of the celeron processor then it will nicely serve for ur office works and also when u open large word file or excel file.... hope u can choose which is the right for u.....either pentium m or celeron... is easy to finalize, y celeron is still in market although u said pentium M is very nice....think about it... |

http://www.mobilityguru.com/2004/03/09/doe...rino/index.html my short summary: Celeron M has disable 2 things from pentium M, half of cache size and speedstep unit. ![]() Benchmark result: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() my conclusion: celeron-m has a good performance as pentium-m, just differ in a small amount. and i don't really bother about battery performance. |

Okey.So Pentium - M is more for image editing and multitasking? While Celeron - M is more for office work?
May i also know how much is the IBM celeron M now? What model? Price ? Specs ? |

there is no real application is suitable for both processor. generally pentium-m can't really outperform celeron-m. that's all.

well as per said by the link to the review,
in terms of performance there are not much difference. The main difference that will be obviously noticable is the battery life, with a celeron m notebook you will notice battery shrinks much faster compared to a centrino notebook, that's it. The other one is the cache, which will only be noticable when you have a lot of memory hungry programs opening simultenously. Other than that, celeron m is as good as pentium m. Those replies that said celeron is a much 'slower' (obviously you are implying speed) processor didn't get the facts right. |
