I am using Citibank Clear card....
But feel like cancelling it now as:

1) Buy 1 Free 1 Movie tickets only limit to 1 free now (previously 2)
2) Buy 1 Free 1 Movie tickets -- TGV limit seats (cannot choose seats above)
3) Buy 1 Free 1 Coffee Bean change to Weekday...

Their privilege is no longer privilege... sad.gif

Any other card to switch to?
(I love Movies~~)

HLB MACH card... 10% discount over the counter and online*

* sometimes has issue with cashback due to MCC code as reported by me in MACH thread

I just got a mail telling me I can upgrade to Platinum Reward. I using the regular gold card now. I didn't bother to upgrade last time coz most citibank privileges i used is also available for gold card users. And their AF is just under 200 (in case they didnt want to waive) which is not that bad.

However this platinum is 600 AF. If they dont want to waive, i kena screwed liao. So still thinking should I upgrade or not. I rarely use this Citi card anyway except to take advantage of Citi specific discount.

What you guys think? Should I upgrade?

gud to see u here! biggrin.gif

i was in same situation as you. i called them yesterday, asked some questions and agreed to change from gold to plat reward - becos i hv nothing to lose.

that af600... only true if you subscribe to all the 5x points categories. if you take none, there is no af, no need to ask for waiver anymore. depending on where you most likely spend, choose 0, 1...6 categories:
user posted image

if you choose just 1, af is rm100, total rm15k spending will get it auto waived . more categories, more spending req'd for waivers. anyway, they will give you waiver for 1st year, ask them.

do you have their platinum cashback card? this one no points, just cashback, good for petrol and groceries. so, for me this cahback pklus the reward will cover almost all - cashback for some spending, 5xpoints for others. the rest, just normal points with the rewards card.

the mail ahs all details. if not, a call and a visit to the website, u wil b clear.

Hahaha.. you here too! I was hanging around here more earlier this year to learn which is the best cc. Now that I got all i seldom here already. Playing more on AV stuff now. tongue.gif But OCBC screw up my spending pattern, so now need to revisit this place again. laugh.gif

thanks for the pointer.

most of my spending now goes to MBB2Kard and my MACH card. This citibank i keep for fun only actually. Only left one thing on it which is an iphone installment plan from maxis (regretted it. should have just pay straight one lump sum)

The 15k/category for annual fee waiver is hard to swallow...

Also, from 2nd year onwards, the annual fee is charge upfront. Any cancellation in the middle of the year, the fee no refund. MACH card charge per quarter, which is a little better.

WoW, thank you for the list of shop.. i also got letter offering this platinum rewards card.. i seldom use my gold card, usually just for TGV flat rate rm10.. now the TGV promo will be ended this year, maybe want to keep the gold card in drawer.. then come this platinum reward offer.. but got to choose which categories.. not choosing any categories also can? so no Annual fees will be charged  thumbup.gif

eh? can got option not to choose any category? in this case its abit more better d... no annual fee, means i dont need to call back to the CS every year. I dont mind if they gave me x1 point. Since now also I have x1 point anyway...

https://www.citibank.com.my/english/credit-...HowWorks_100113

It says here : Minimum 2. But the FAQ didn't mention if we can choose not to subscribe any category or not.

Edit : Ok I dig more in the T&C

https://www.citibank.com.my/english/credit-...um-card-tnc.pdf

It says (refer to page 2), for the 1st year you must subscribe minimum 2 category. Following year, you may subscribe none or any number of reward category.

Ok so, it is possible to subscribe none icon_idea.gif Since the 1st year is free of AF, so i got nothing to loose! Almost 2nd year, I just cancel all category and go back to x1 point.

No more talking to Citibank CS every year!

Great, another informative news  thumbup.gif

if i read the T&C correctly, 2nd year category AF can be waived according to our 1st year spending, which is free for every rm15k spend.. so, if i spend more than rm15k in 1st year, can consider to sign 1 category on 2nd year..
*
yup.

but in my case, impossible for me to spend that much on citibank. i only spend such amount of cash on my maybank2kard

i think the 1st yr condition of 2 category applies only to new card holders, additional new cards. upgrade from gold, etc. not applicable.

but new cards will get bonus 20,000 pts, upgraders not applicable.

really, nothing to lose by changing from gold to rewards. i think they are pushing all "old" cards like gold to this rewards as a streamlining/consolidating exercise. my read is if you do not change, they will not waive the af for gold card in the future that easily.
one thing about citibank cards... tesco, giant, jusco, cold storage all part of the cashback or 5x pts but... jaya grocer is not. i wish this one will be included soon as i find this chain attractive in terms of selection, freshness and prices... better than the rest, imo.
*
yea, so free category is some of the points i need to clarify on phone with the citi ppl before i decide lo.

tesco n aeon accept maybank amex... that is better as it gives me 5% cashback n x5 point, which equals to about 7% cashback. by comparison citi x5 is about 2.5% cashback only i believe.

of course this is only applicable if you shop on weekends. on weekday mbb amex drop to equivalent of 2% only

so for ppl like me which has both card, i dun see the attraction of x5 on citibank that much tongue.gif

ya, i agree... as consumers, we will try our best to get max benefit in everything as banks, developers, banks try their best to suck the max from us. tongue.gif

e.g. today, i spend rm400 at jaya grocer but i will get only normal citibank points. why do i choose to do that?

not so much that i diehard support any bank but more like i stay away from maybank as they are shit in other banking services. i am also going to spend less at tesco becos this joint that i use to frequent do not seem interested to sell me pork and carlsberg cans. they do have those offers but is now making it very difficult for me to buy - no person manning the non-halal counter, credit card machine always down, need to pay cash, normal counters refuse to touch tis n tat (not sure tis is little napoleons at work or co. policy) , so... ok, i just go away spend at jaya grocer where the foreign workers have no problem but keep smiling. biggrin.gif

sometimes, lose a little discount, give up a few points is alright - feel better and not being humiliated, just wanna eat sausage and drink beer.

Yup, u r rite. Sometimes good service is better than a few ringgit saved.

r u sure no af? or you paid without knowing?! biggrin.gif

well, it is possible i suppose  for some cards. i did have one direct access card which clearly stated it is free-for-life when i got it. trouble with that card was was too plain, no cashback, points and redemption program not good, discounts at promo shops/restaurants less than regular cimb cards!

anyway, i just got the rewards card. was told it'll take 2 weeks but actually only a few days. the gold card will auto-deactivate after 90 days. good news is there is no need to do anything else, everything transparent to me - no need to change card nos. for auto-debits, e-statements will auto replace, etc. pretty hassle free, nothing to lose...

Aiya... I left my letter at home. I planned to call the number today, but forget to bring the letter with me to office. doh.gif

for upgrade, you can only get 1 free category for free for a period of 1 year...

no other benefits.

CS upgraded my card on Dec 17th from gold to reward platinum. Waited until Jan 9th still didn't received the new card. Called CS and they say poslaju delivered it on Jan 7th. I say i didnt see any card saying they attempt to deliver. Get them to route the card to my office. I don't understand what people will be at home on a weekday to received package...

So i gave them my address and they say will request poslaju to route it but someone else will call me back to double confirm. Very slow n even AEON credit card got better logic to offer to sent to your office instead.

About 2 years i believe

QUOTE(namh @ Jan 10 2014, 12:29 PM)
you got letter offering the upgrade from gold to reward platinum? do you need to submit any document for the upgrade? i got the offer too, but might let it go if need to submit any document  wink.gif
*
yes i did. no document needed. after consideration i planned to call them to upgrade, but they called me first to offer the upgrade. so just ngam the timing.

update:

so the CS called me and they say according to the poslaju website it says they delivered my card. unfortunately i didnt received it. So they proceed to cancel it and reissue me a new card.

i guess this time is a poslaju f***up...

After my new credit card got lost by poslaju, citibank sent me another card. I specifically told twice (one to the cs, another to the person that confirm my office address) to sent to my office. But alas, it went to my house AGAIN. But at least this time poslaju leave a letter ask my to collect. I will be going there this Saturday sad.gif

I'm also in the midst to get this card. Not sure which category to choose, Driving is confirmed since will be used for petrol. Even if we choose the category, the 5x rewards point will only be given if the transaction is done at the participating merchants only right?

P/S: Minimum one category will do right?

"the 5x rewards point will only be given if the transaction is done at the participating merchants only right?"

yes

"Minimum one category will do right?"
