the poison is spreadingggggggggggggggggggg! by the way, maxcheam, you should probably download 1 huge file and see the max of the DL speed.. normally people would do that instead.
*
haha.. I prefer this type of test as it represents the real life usage where multiple users are sharing one connection. This test also showed that the DL speed is not limited by the UL speed of the server you're downloading from. Don't you agree? icon_idea.gif

Again it has not much difference compared to my E372. You know la my speed sucks like there is no tomorrow.
*
yup, I never say my speed is better than anyone else. It's just a sharing of the real life usage for anyone that is interested to purchase a new modem where they can't decide which to buy.

However, it's definitely better than all my previous records in my area. I'd say this is more to the dual external antenna ports that E398 has which can better optimize the dual channel carrier that DC-HSPA+ is capable of. Of course, there are also other factos where you need to have at least 2 cell towers that are not very congested to get better improvement over any DC-HSPA+ modems that only has a single external antenna port.

may i know what antenna used?
*
I'm currently using 2 panel antennas (one from coolstore and one from blacktubi). I want to note that deciding on using what type of antenna for each individual requires analyzing all the factors that affects the connection in your area. there is no single solution that fits everyone. whistling.gif

Well, I'm not complaining about anything.
I'm saying the speed you are getting is just like my E372. My area is really bad. I don't think E398 can help to do any wonder in my area until Blacktubi fixes the CRC9 issue. whistling.gif
*
sorry if my response made you feel that i think you're complaining. I just want to clarify to whoever that read this thread that E398 is not the super modem that will fix the speed issue or signal issue in their area. that's all! notworthy.gif

btw, what is the best APN recommended..
*
i don't think it make much difference. Unless you're planning to use public IP, just use the one that you tested having the best performance at your area.

I don't remember all the official APNs for Maxis though. I'm sure other members can point it out for you. rolleyes.gif

No difference at all laugh.gif

You can even connect if you put my name as APN tongue.gif

Anyway, seem E398 treating you very well brows.gif

You used 2 antenna together? brows.gif

yup, thanks for bringing it in. I should've bought it much earlier. notworthy.gif

while most of you are having fun chit-chatting here.. i was busy testing out VPN aggregation/bonding to see if it is an option for me to speed up my connections.

I'm not trying to proof anything but just want to share. i'm lazy to take any screenshots but here are the results in my words:
I subscribed to a Singapore-based VPS - oneasiahost.com. It is the cheapest about (USD10/month) I can find closest to us as I need as low latency as possible for my tests.

Set-up a zeroshell image there and follow some web and youtube guides on how to setup the VPN bonding, managed to get it up and running. However, the results were not promising. The limitation is at the VPS end. Maybe the host that I subscribed to didn't have the speed that they claim.

The way VPN bonding works is it combines multiple WAN connections from one place to another place which has a fat pipe out. For example, we have 3 x 2Mbps WAN connections bonded with 100Mbps WAN connection. The maximum speed we can achieve is 6Mbps. But if we have the same 3 x 2Mbps WAN connections bonded with a 1Mbps WAN connection, the end result will be limited by the 1Mbps connection. These assumptions are based on a very low latency connections between the two sites.

Unless we can find another place that is very low latency, high speed connection and cheap, this method doesn't benefit us at all. I'll stick with my E398 now and continue to jealously read this thread on all your high speed. sad.gif

I got a dedi at OVH but ping is not great.

Else I will help you out  laugh.gif

Consider HK VPS nod.gif

I have another VPS in US with good speed but latency is more than 200ms.
is the HK VPS cheap? can recommend one?

Public IP allows you to do port forwarding. But the speed is capped at 2Mbps.

Public IP must call Maxis and request.
*
Just want to clarify that it doesn't capped at 2Mbps most of the time. The QoS in MDMA might show you that but actual usage can be more than 2Mbps. I never go over 10Mbps in my area though.. Average speed is between 1-5Mbps. icon_rolleyes.gif
