I think my D40 has some focusing issue now... Not sure is it due to the kit lens or the body, sometimes i have put the focus points right at the person face, but it still focus the background instead when the picture is saved... How much would it cost to "recondition" my lens and camera at Nikon Server Center?

QUOTE(razkal @ Dec 28 2012, 11:54 PM) Morning guys, I need some advice regarding Nikon lenses. Really tempted with the new D600 and thinking of changing to full frame camera from micro four third. Between 50mm f1.4g and 50mm f1.8g, which is one is better to start with as my first lens. Also heard that D600 got problems with dust/oil. Has Nikon solved this with the newer batches? Thanks I'm letting go my unused 50mm 1.4G, please let me know if you are interested, selling it at a very good price

Hey everyone I am in the UK at the moment, may I know if a D5100 + 18-55 kit lens costing ~RM1800 is worth it or not? Feel like buying one before getting my D600 in Malaysia, my D40 is starting to show sign of retirement liao

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Jan 29 2013, 03:09 AM) Why get one when you already intend to get a D600? Unless if the time gap between the D5100 and the D600 is counted in years la I need to wait for another 8 more months at least if things goes well, the second hand resale value of D5100 is about RM1200 (lowest estimate)... Got more megapixel on the D5100 might be getting from digitalrev.com as they provide worldwide local warranty

Has anybody here used a macro lens for portraits? I am thinking of getting the 60mm Nikkor to take both macro and portraits.

QUOTE(razuryza @ Jan 30 2013, 08:26 PM) icic... hmm, i am thinking of getting it, but i got the 50mm 1.8G, just that sometimes i find the bokeh is too much, and the depth of field is too shallow..

QUOTE(razuryza @ Jan 30 2013, 11:22 PM) if too shallow, just use smaller aperture la.. aduyai yeah but doesn't seem to make much difference, unless i seriously step it down! i like my photo to have a bit of clear background like those kit lens "quality"... how is the depth of field of the 60mm when you shoot portrait?

QUOTE(razuryza @ Jan 31 2013, 12:46 AM) for safety, use f/4 and smaller if u wanna whole body sharp. even on wide angle i usually use f/5.6 for group photo sample 60mm macro: thanks for the tip!
