got my D800 yesterday..seems like 16GB card only gets me 200 RAW files lossless compressed..and 249 RAW files compressed..both 14bit..
looking to upgrade my CF and SD in a short while but just wondering..is there alot of different between lossless compressed and compressed? thanks guys! |

QUOTE(Maniac @ Nov 11 2012, 10:13 PM) yes, i agree with u sir. under controlled situation, the D7000's video is no slouch. there's one wedding that one of our videographers had to use his D7000 as the given 5D2 is still undergoing a surgery. turns out pretty well. just that nikon's WB is warmer even if its set at the same value with canon's. but overall quality at low iso's, its still good enough. anyway, yes it loses to a 60D on video by a small margin. but for stills photography, its a winner in lots of ways in my personal opinion |

QUOTE(seather @ Nov 11 2012, 10:40 PM) welcome to the club nope, my SD shows 198 oni ur next investment will be an SSD my 16GB CF card shows 200 shots but my 16GB SD cards shows 199 shots (both Sandisk extreme)... urs too? getting 32GB memory cards tomorrow hopefully. btw guys, my 50mm 1.8G seems to have front focusing issues. on my D700 n D800 as well. i had to fine tune it -20 reason i bought the 50mm 1.8G is because the highest range on nikon's 50mm is the 50mm 1.4G and i read there's some focusing issues with it. sharpness wise, the 50mm 1.8G wins by a slight margin (this is what i read online, not that i have tried it). and i dont want sigma due to im afraid to gamble. any 50mm 1.4G owners here? care to share ur opinion? if not i shud send it back to nikon for recalibration i suppose |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Nov 12 2012, 10:45 AM) Never did a comparison between both lossless and lossy before, but I remember seeing the lossless retaining more shadows details back then. (It was a D700 review comparing different NEF settings), should be applicable to D800 as well. buddy, my CF card is empty (as shown on my computer) and i get 200 RAW shots shown on the display.16GB would get you a little more than 320 shots on 14-bit lossless NEF based on my experience so far. but thanks to u, now i know that the display is lying to me thanks again man. really good to have such experienced user here *kinda helps me in a way as most of my memory card sellers need to order the cards and it may take up to 2weeks time and i got an assignment this upcoming 17th..sigh* |

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Nov 12 2012, 12:17 PM) Hey Tony, how have you been doing? hey man, im doing great Well, the number displayed in the LCD display are based on estimation and usually they take the largest possible when it comes to that. A image file size depending on the details captured, the more details in an image has larger file than an image with less details (for example many blown highlights). I'm not sure with the technical details on my assumption, but relatively I think this is how it happened. I can usually shots up to 800+ RAW files on my 16GB where it displays 500+ when it's empty. thanks for the info n thinking it logically, it should do that. my canon sometimes show me even bizarre shot counts yeah! |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Nov 12 2012, 02:04 PM) The display didn't lie, the camera only estimate based on say 50MB per file but since you're shooting on lossless compression mode, files can vary from 40MB~75MB which basically throws the estimation off. I think if you shoot on uncompressed you would probably get about 200 shots? should be correct. meaning all the shots are in the same sizes. lossless compressed is good enough for me i suppose |

QUOTE(emusmax @ Nov 16 2012, 12:48 AM) Anyone using D3200 for video jobs? Im currently using 5dm2 and d7000. Getting another body since sometimes, we need extra angles and jus for interview use. The external mic input seems good enuff for my requirements. why not consider the 550D? our team also got a videography department n we're using 5D3/2 and bunch of 60D's..we used a D7000 before just that nikon's video arent as good as canon. just a thought |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Nov 16 2012, 10:47 AM) I'm new to video, kinda interested to know what's the differences in terms of live view zooming between the Canon and say, D600/D800? honestly, i use live view zooming to get precise focusing. on a D800, the live view auto focusing is SUPERB. but when it comes to zoom > manual focusing, even the 60D can win due to screen lagness. and i use alot of zoom > manual focusing when it comes to video Added on November 16, 2012, 11:21 am QUOTE(gerald7 @ Nov 16 2012, 10:16 AM) Im shooting videos w/ 5dmk2 / 7D.. currently testing to see if our new d600 video can fit in our workflow or not. But Canon live view zooming is really way better than Nikons. And the best part for me is ability to load custom picture styles for flat video. Gonna real world test the d600 tonite good luck! i've tried to D600's video and it seems good enough. just that one thing i have to complaint..why i cannot set the aperture in live view?? huhu me so sad This post has been edited by Tony Stark: Nov 16 2012, 11:21 AM |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Nov 16 2012, 11:37 AM) I'm still confused in what you're talking about haha nikon does have it, but not as good as canon's. its minor really if one is not doing lots of video works, but if one does, then it can be a bit more than just minor. So live view zooming is something the Nikon camera doesn't have as compared to Canon? QUOTE(Everdying @ Nov 16 2012, 11:43 AM) u mean live exposure in live view? that is a 'feature' that d800 users complain about and want it removed nope, i meant the aperture value in live view QUOTE(MrAkay @ Nov 16 2012, 01:08 PM) as we all know, the nikon's WB is a bit warmer than canon's. that's a non issue but if ur aligning the WB precisely, its better off to get an external monitor so that the value n color renders correctly. take note that im using K in any situation for video. as for the full HD output, the D600 is pretty amazing on the blacks and highlights. but i stupidly get flickers on it sometimes (this one due to user problem). low light, D600 wins. but i rarely use it in low light. if we had to, then large aperture lenses will come in play so means no crazy high iso is needed. in terms of sharpness, to my eyes, the canon is abit sharper. its a none issue.this is just my opinion, and yes the D600 records pretty amazing video. just that i have to say the laggy zoom in live view n the fact that i cant change the aperture in live view turns me off. but hey, that's just me. oh ya, and the oil n dusts leak to the sensor prob as well for those who bought a D600 for video n stills, its one hell of a camera |

QUOTE(MrAkay @ Nov 21 2012, 06:34 PM) some1 posted a video of d600 issue again but this time, he bought a brand new d600, point it to a white wall and shot 1000 frames at f16. can see the dust appearing even though he never change lens. this is why i sold my D600 and bought the D800. but it turns out, my D800's a lemon copy. the middle AF point needs AF fine tune, the left and the right points also needs, just that in different values. im so tulan about this so i sell it too and bought another D3s. wanted to buy a D4 but im still not confident about the XQD card and i also heard that there's focusing system flaws.http://www.petapixel.com/2012/11/21/a-time...n-d600-sensors/ probably u guys are saying, why not adjust the AF fine tune on the D800 right? yes i can. but its giving me inconsistent results throughout the range of the subject and i got a D90, 2xD700, D3, D3s before, and none of em is giving me this problem. i love nikon's image quality, build quality, their lenses are super sharp, but maybe im not gonna be a beta tester for the time being (actually, i already did |

QUOTE(MrAkay @ Nov 22 2012, 11:52 AM) maybe if its a really really bright scene then u can see the dust spots, the video was made using a white wall + spot light at f16 so.. of course lah can see everything on sensor i did give nikon BTS a call, they said they need to speak to their technician about it, and it'll take them up to 2 weeks to rectify the problem. its has been all over the web and im pretty sure nikon is not keeping shut about this. in time they will address this problem and fix it. by then it should be the right time for u to upgrade. just wish the D800 is as good as the D700..i mean when the D700 came out, it seems that there's like no probs with it. read somewhere that nikon switching factories may cause the QC interference.stick to nikonn lahh, tried and tested and it works (atleast for before current gen bodies but dude, did u ever ask nikon what happened with your d800? i hope by the time i get one problem is solved edi.. and only way to know its solved if there are less complains on the web. nikon hasnt acknowledged any of the current gen body problems yet and i think they never will. malu only lol |
