GUys !! got few question on 85mm lens of nikkor...

1) Which should i go for - 85mm f1.8G / 85mm f1.8D ( on a D7k ) & why?
2) Why does the 85mm f1.8D much more expensive than the 1.8G in some web? ._. weird.

3) First hand or 2nd hand?

biggrin.gif

got confuse when choosing between these 2 lens >< inb4 thx from me to those who reply =)

1. f/1.8G is a better lens, optics wise and also focusing. Basically, its the new and improved f/1.8 lens.
2. Well... no idea... but I would pick the G anytime over the D.
3. How deep is your pocket? New if you can afford, and second hand if you can't, plus you don't lose much when selling it later if you bought second hand.
*
hmm tot so too... going for the G ! =) hmm.. i can afford the first hand price ( rm1.3k ++ ) also... while 2nd hand is @ rm1k~rm1.1k so far... whats ur opinion rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

if 2nd hand.. lets say used 1 year.. and the next year i sell ( used 2 year ) price will drop a lot ? agak how much ah?

For second hand item, if your condition still similar then should fetch very similar price. Doesn't matter 2nd, 3rd or 4th hand, it still USED.
*
hmm okay biggrin.gif

oh ya ! one more thing... not everything in B&H is cheaper rite? noticed that the 35mm f1.8G is rm600 ( after conversion ) while here is rm700-800+

then there de 85mm f1.8G is 496.95US ( rm 1577 ) while here selling around 1.3k... for brand new @_@ ayam confused rclxub.gif

just stop the buying frenzy. find out the focal length that suits your style and go for it.
*
hmm okay... so far found out my close focal length i found out its @ 35mm.. which made me purchased the 35mm prime...
was thinking about 85mm for a mid telephoto on a DX.. eg for streets / portrait... heart that its a good lens for portrait in a DX camera.. which made me thinking about getting one of it too...

or should i cont shooting more with my kit lens? 18-105?

85mm on DX goes to about 135mm's FOV on FX.

I feel that 85mm on DX feels rather tight, need quite some space even just to get half body photograph but it's case by case, some people like 135mm on FX, some people like it on DX.

To me - there's no fixed rule on what focal length on DX / FX.

and your 18-105 VR is a very good starter lens.

You can use software like http://www.cpr.demon.nl/prog_plotf.html to find out your usual focal length (and even ISO, shutter speed, so on so forth)
*
hmm.. for me the 50mm its like.. say wide not wide, say tight not tight... tried 85mm on my lens shooting.. felt not bad..so how @@ or play with 35mm first?

you got 18-105 VR. you try out la. put it at 35mm, selotape it then to go out and shoot. do it for 50mm / 85mm / 105mm. biggrin.gif then see which one you like.
*
hehe tried 85 alr.. not bad la... liked the tele range... far far shoot people biggrin.gif just ayam confuse on isit like getting 35mm and 85mm prime together at 1 shot is not good... should like master 1 first only go for the other... the 35mm i super liked that range... 85mm not bad.. alr longest telephoto prime at a budget price.. felt uneasy with 50mm prime.. far not far close not close feel ><

define STAGE. smile.gif 85mm sometimes too near, sometimes not enough also.

if I want to take photo of people on stage, I'll get a telephoto zoom lens. 80-200 / 70-200 for example.
*
ayam not enough money for that type T_T hmm.. normal stage ba... not those big type one... where i can stand in front one..
but main point still tele for streets to prevent our subject from noticing us by using 85mm on crop is good rite?
