sadly no the af fine tune doesn't solve the issue. The back focus hasn't been apparent in my case because I haven't been taking much portraiture the last 2 years... Now I'm planning to go into portraiture and damn when I shoot using 85mm 1.8 it's so bloody to hard to get focus ._____________.
Thanks for the info! smile.gif

Did you test with different lenses?

When you're shooting portrait, are you using f/1.8? If yes, did you focus and re-compose?
If no, you may try using Live View and see.

Yeah I did try with different lenses . 35mm 1.8 produces the same result.

and I did a photoshoot earlier today and for the 85mm especially at full body range the lens tends to focus right behind the subject no matter which part of the subject i focus on

I see; Best you give them more details and mentioned that you tested with diferrent lenses. If you can test sample, ca provide them as well.

in the end you delete 9 pictures because they all are identical

Depends on the couple, some very shy, just quickly move in touch lips to lips then move away. If you miss it, then you need to request them to do again. Really depend on situation, it can happen very fast and you're may struggle to even get a good angle first. Your burst of 10, maybe only 1-2 is lips to lips, not yet mention how is the focus (is it spot on?), good angle? etc. When you focus, is before they move in and kiss, and when they kiss they may have move out of the focal plane and it may happen in split second.

you can actually request them to hold while if you are OP

Yes, that's why I said depends on couple, some is shy and reluctant to do it, they will move in fast and touch and move away, and some won't want to do it again.

pulling more than f8,,,,smaller???
i'll make it a try

When you're shooting close up or the closer you get, the DOF becomes more shallow.
The lens focal length is also one of the factor, if you're using telephoto and shooting closeup, the DOF will be more shallow.

yeah but doesn't seem to make much difference, unless i seriously step it down! i like my photo to have a bit of clear background like those kit lens "quality"... how is the depth of field of the 60mm when you shoot portrait?
*
If you shoot close-up, the Depth of Field will be more shallow. So, if you shoot closeup, you need to have use even smaller aperture.
Another factor is focal length, the longer focal length, you get more shallow Depth of Field.

When you shoot with Kit Lens, the background more clear because you're using wider angle.
