My first not bad night shot, Nikon 3100 without tripod

1) Actually what should we prepare if want to bring our camera to winter country when snowing? Last time I heard my friend said his camera lense freeze when bring the camera up the mountain in new Zealand, I think that time should be very cold.
I will go Hokkaido soon for winter snow shot, so what should I prepare for that weather condition? I think it won't be too cold until lense freez.

2) I tested my 18-55mm Nikon lense, and I found that the picture sharpness quality of 55mm is almost same like picture taken with 35mm. My friend said better to always shoot with 35mm, since you can just crop it out later since the quality will be same as picture taken with 55mm, and I think what he said is true. What do you think?

nice jepun shoot drool.gif
i wish i can go there

1) duno i bring it like a bwass.... just make sure dont create fog inside lens like going from outdoor cold place to indoor warm place.
2) that one if your photo resolution is big enough to crop unsure.gif .but usually I preserve a bit of space to crop also la. even my cam is 6mp tongue.gif

Yes, that's the advantage of Nikon. When you mount DX lens on full frame camera, there is a CROP Mode, where your 18mm DX lens will become 27mm due to the Crop Mode, this is because the lens cannot utilize the full frame sensor area. Hence, a DX lens.

As for image quality, can't comment because I have no experience using both and compare. But FX lens are more expensive and when mount on DX, it should give better result because it's utilizing the centre area which is usually the strength of the lens. The problem is when you mount on DX body, 24mm will become 36mm which is no longer wide.

Built quality, feel wise, I believe the D600 bundled lens will be much better. Perhaps when you try and feel both you will know. Besides, aperture wise, the bundled lens for D600 is f/3.5 to f/4.5, plus it's a refresh of the older yet very good 24-85mm f/3.5-4 AF-D.
*
not sure la, FX lens width is wider than common DX right? also allow more light go in sensor? hmm.gif (need critic this)

also old time FX lens built for pro right? so overall the quality also quite good? duno now la after D600 out hmm.gif (need critic this)

just thinking... unsure.gif

umm DX is x1.5 and FX is actual...is it saying that DX is better then FX if i use it to take picture for landscape? but for close range like food it will be blur?
*
DX, smaller sensor size.

- cheaper cost
- sharper DOF? i mean won't easy blur for close range....
- need more time to let light go in sensor compare to FX, but with current body high ISO performance no need worry la. only i need worry unsure.gif
- lesser bokeh because crop sensor.

that's why you see this video, handphone one... sharper a lot because sensor is smaller tongue.gif

umm now i am confused, i thought variable aperture is more expensive? or should i say the higher the maximum aperture the more expensive?
*
lol i know your feel when first time read lens spec than kitlens lol...

but aside the focal range, aperture range ...

price also affect by lens' quality like MTF chart? (sharpness performance)
Aspherical elements.... which increase cost to make this element....
quality built.... from plastic to metal bla bla bla...
weather seal bla bla
nano coat bla bla.... biggrin.gif

let's use a car as example la

proton saga 1.5 cc vs benz/BMW 1.5cc.... why the BMW / Benz always expensive? unsure.gif tongue.gif
what is the factor that affect the price tongue.gif

umm...seems like i still have a long way to be a photographer cry.gif
yea, and i read an article on web by ken rockwell. He say nikon 70 -200 is so impressive lol
*
as for aperture...

let say the 70-300 f/4.5-6 (cheapo one) vs 70-200 f/2.8 VRII

70-300 f/4.5-6
when your focal range is 70mm, the maximum aperture is f/4.5, but if you turn to 300mm, it will become smaller aperture and change to f/6... for bokeh fans this might be dissapointing...

for 70-200
it is constant f/2.8 for any range rclxm9.gif

----
i roughly list the pro and cons la, i never use 70-200 but i can guess what's good about that lens...

70-300mm

pro:
light weight
extra 100mm
cheap

70-200mm
pro:

-nano coat, for prevent chromatic aberration/ colour frindge
-heavy, good for stability, hence also because they use better material to built this thoughter
-weather seal?
-aspherical elements
-focus speed is VERY FAST drool.gif
-MTF performance is better http://www.punitsinha.com/resource/underst..._mtf_chart.html
- awesome lens hood laugh.gif

It's my pleasure to be able to enjoy such beautiful photos, man! Can tell us more about the settings for each photo? blush.gif

For low light shots, people want to shoot at as low an ISO speed as possible, right, in order to minimise noise? Shutter speed as slow as possible so that it allows more light to enter into the lens?

I am a newbie in photography... Newbie as in 99% fresh, apa pun tak tau. laugh.gif The 1% is gained via self-reading from camera reviews, photography blogs, bla bla bla... sweat.gif

All I have ever used is a compact point and shoot. 100% automatic.

Usually after shooting in RAW, how do we process the files? By using Photoshop? Can any gurus here enlighten me a bit? blush.gif

any picture editing software that support nikon RAW format.
Photoshop is one of it.
another popular is lightroom,
