anyway, just a quick update on the Smart Dock that I plan to get... I've received queries from some interested members... we'll most likely to proceed once we get another 6 more names...

RRP in US = usd99 (about rm300). based on the US site, it also comes with a 2A charger. we should be able to get a better price than that.

i like this dock coz... you can watch movies or do work on your big LCD TV and charge the phone at the same time. no need for any other converter cable (i guess you still need a HDMI cable). an extra charger... we can always to with that.

if interested... just PM. hope to wrap this thing up by this week so we can all enjoy this before Christmas. biggrin.gif

Phablets — the next big thing?
http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/tech/ar...next-big-thing/

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 11 — The astounding sales figures for Samsung’s Galaxy Note II suggest that smartphones with a 5.5-inch screen are not a fad and that more companies could soon follow suit in order to address competition from the growing 7-inch tablet market.

When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note, it was greeted with scorn by the tech community who claimed it was too big to use as a phone and too small to use as a tablet. Yet its second iteration, the Galaxy Note II, has gone on to sell more than 3 million units in the 30 days since its launch — and that was without being available in the US. To put that into perspective, Sony only shipped 8.8 million smartphones in total, worldwide, in the third quarter of 2012.

Now comments from Chinese computer maker Lenovo and the actions of Samsung’s biggest competitors suggest that the “phablet” is not a niche product and could well be the next major trend in mobile devices.

During a conference call to discuss his company’s earnings on Thursday, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing suggested that while 10-inch tablets would soon be replaced by convertible PCs, the latest generation of 7-inch tablets could prove a direct challenge to smartphones: “The market accepts the 7-inch [tablet] better than the 10-inch. That’s a very strong signal, the tablet will not replace the traditional PC... Probably, the tablet will compete with the large-screen smartphone rather than the PC,” he said.

Smartphone makers are also aware of this potential threat and have started to develop their own 5-inch display phones. LG recently launched its 5-inch display Intuition in the US and HTC is about to follow suit with its Droid DNA, which is expected to launch officially in North America on November 13.

Added to this is the fact that Swiss tech site Android Schweiz has just revealed leaked photos and specifications of a 5-inch Sony smartphone, and it would appear that a trend is developing — in the Android segment of the market at least.

It is also worth noting that when Apple’s iPhone 5 was launched back in September that Apple’s outspoken co-founder, Steve Wozniak was critical of the company’s decision not to make it available in a choice of screen sizes. He told African tech site TechCentral: “I wish [Apple] had made wider versions — a small and a large version of the iPhone... Not all people want the same thing. A lot of people want the big screens... You get a feeling you’re getting more with a larger screen.” — AFP/Relaxnews

thinking of getting a note2, should i sigh up with maxis centre for 1899? for one yr contract?
seems like new one also no much diff price wor...

QUOTE(nicregi @ Nov 12 2012, 09:15 AM)
Cheaper is better if you ask me. If you dont mind contract, then you can get the phone smile.gif
*
agreed... smartphone should always have a data plan. and if you are going to be paying for the data plan anyway, might a s well get some benefit out of it. downside of this... you really have to stick to the telco for the contract period.

if can get something at a cheaper price, why not? biggrin.gif

my advice, never get ap set, the warranty can give u much headache
*
thanks... but my experience with SME is not very much different. i'm still sore about my Note 1's charger (hissing sound). they gave me lame excuses and then finally said no longer under warranty.

and with SMe only giving 1 year warranty... and based on my past Samsung phones... 1st year dun really give me any problems.

so, i'm kinda bent on getting AP set this time around. at rm17xx... i think it's a good deal. the savings can be used to purchase the smart dock. biggrin.gif

so now... back to my original Q... anyone gotten an AP set from S Link before? any issues when you had to claim? It would seem like they are an OK AP company -- saw someone remark that in another thread.

but nowadays SME also reject warranty claim for rooted phone..
price different more than rm300 ohh
*
as many sifu here have mentioned... if root phone... must be mentally prepared to have the phone warranty claim rejected. Samsung made it clear but sometimes, they just close an eye... biggrin.gif

for me... i guess its mainly due to luck. if lucky, AP or SME... no problem for 1 year.

worst case... if AP set, bring to SC in MY and say willing to pay. i'm sure samsung won't say no... right? even if yes... well, i'm mentally prepared for it.

For SenQ, make sure you check whether the seal is tampered or not. And whether they have the digi reload coupon stock.

well, i can say that SEP can also be not much different...

i recall one incident... partly blame myself (maybe over excited abt getting my phone back then)... one SEP sold me a cheapo SP for rm60. no brand SP. and claims it's good and normal retail price = rm90. since i was buying phone, i got rm60 as promo... went home... asked myself... wth did i just pay rm60 for?!? it was crappy SP. but learnt something...

FYI... that SEP is in IOI Mall.

lol.... we all are vulnerable to the "feel good mood" when getting new gadget.  I made the same mistake when i got my first DSLR.  Saw a very nice neoprene strap with big Canon logo on it.  Ask the shopkeeper and was told it costs RM90 but give special price RM60 for me as i bought it with the DSLR, so i grab it.  Reach home and check the LYN garage - it is only RM25-30 a piece for the exact same thing.  doh.gif

btw, how's the desktop dock bulk?  Remember to PM me if there is any update.  Thanks.  notworthy.gif
*
ya, for my SP... i think only like rm5... or less... still... i personal blacklist that SEP. 1U SEP never did such thing to me... hahaha...

the smart dock... heh heh... i'm also waiting for the price confirmation, etc... *looks at aspire2oo6*... hahaha... whistling.gif biggrin.gif

From dealers you can get around RM2135 for Titanium Grey set while for white is less by RM50.
You might get a cheaper price if you rajin look at Garage Sales section for loose sales.
*
i posted about 2 days back... someone selling the SME sets very cheap... cheaper than even DirectD and 1Gadget. grey also cheaper, iirc.

Bro , the flip stand i use is abt rm10, plus a box of good Velcro is rm35 for 2 meters. You can stick lots of stuff for 2m. Exomount shd be 100++. Just try stg simple first. You are not going to take yr exomount and stick on yr dining table or cabinet side..........
*
just curious... how do you stick the velcro to the car (dashboard)? double sided tape? super glue?

BTW, some interesting thoughts about the cost of cloud backup if you have terabytes of data....

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/11/15/cloud_storage_costs/
*
on a side note related to cloud storage... if it is 'public' cloud like Google or DropBox... you actually have no 'rights' to the contents... see/ read: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/10/gover...cloud-computing
