Guys, just want to check whether there is possibility to make the shutter/press button on 5R to be silent? I noticed that the 'click' sound is quite loud, and it kinda disturbing when i snapped photos at a silent/quiet room..

Thanks for helping.

Hi mls_gamer, i have tried to go to the setting & couldn't find the option in NEX-5R, could only find options to mute the beep, and the audio recording during movie recording.. mind to share the option name?

Turn on front curtain shutter in setup. If that is loud, then there's nothing we can do  cry.gif

hi romulus, i have tried the front curtain shutter. there is no difference to the 'clicking' sound whether it's turned on or off. It's still loud..

This make me wonder if NEX-5R is not suitable for taking photos at a quiet occasion like during seminar/talk, or taking sleeping baby photos because of the loud shutter button sound.. The sounds do make me feel as if i'm a professional photographer (lol) but there are certain situations especially during talk when audiences are focusing on the speaker, I snap their pictures from the back, audiences turn around and look at me (they lose concentration because of me cry.gif )

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think there is no way you can turn off that sound because that is the sound of the shutter physically shutting and opening when you take the picture, not the sound of the click of a button.

thanks for the info.. i guess nothing can be done about it.. if only i can muffle the sound, it would be perfect.

Hi guys, I'm interested in getting the 5R after doing some research on cams <2.5k.

Most reviews says that it has great image and video quality, but also mentioned about the not so good touch screen and wifi capability.

Before i take the plunge, I would like to find out how is your day to day experience in using the touch screen and wifi. Also if there are any known issue with 5R that I should know before hand smile.gif

Thanks in advance!

overall i'm quite satisfied my 5R. best purchase ever thumbup.gif

i am satisfied with the wi-fi capability since transferring photos from 5R to iphone is easy. of course please don't expect to transfer 600 photos within 5 minutes like a pc does. it takes longer time. i can't remember how long it takes but the wi-fi does it job & i'm satisfied with that..

Actually it will be easier if you select only the photos you want from 5R & transfer the selected photos to the iphone. transferring one or 2 photos are quite fast.. However, if you have 600 photos in your camera, the process of marking/selecting the photos are quite tedious. As such, i prefer copying all photos to my iphone and make selection from there.

I love 5R's touchscreen. I own a Lumix before & the touchscreen is too responsive that accidental brush on the screen will end up automatically capturing the image. It annoys me coz i had to delete the unwanted photos quite often. I think for 5R, the kind of tap required at the touchscreen is just slightly firmer than a tap on iphone. As i have an iphone, i had no problem with 5R screen. And i personally prefer a slight firm tap after all the craziness dealing with the lumix.

All genuine Sony camera entitle the extra 3 months warranty if you register online...

the additional 1 year warranty will cancel of the extra 3 months warranty...

mine didn't cancel out the extra 3 months warranty.. I purchased mine on 31 Dec 2012, and warranty expired on 30 Mar 2015.
However, i did not do the registration myself, the sony center registered it for me.

Hello,

I intend to get a Sony Nex 5r soon and I'm very keen to get the white color unit. However, I was told that the white body paint seems fragile and might easily chip off or prone to scratches. Any Sony Nex white unit owner can give input to this based on your experience?

I'm also contemplating between these 2 deals:-
a) Sony Center ~ RM2450 (8gb, bag, usual 12 months warranty + additional 12+3 months warranty)
b) Low Yat shop ~ RM2300 (8gb, bag, usual 12 months warranty)

This is my first time seeking advice from lyf, hopefully can get some input to help me.

Thanks in advance.

Is the Sony Center you mention above is located in Low Yat too? If not, do check out the best price there. I got quite a good offer there when i purchased mine. Otherwise you will have to decide whether the RM150 difference is worthy for the additional 1 year + 3 months warranty coverage.

Can't advice on the colour since i choose the silver color for easy maintenance.

Guys, I note that the Sony Alpha Experience 2013 in March allow us (member) to bring a friend. Does the friend need to own a Sony camera too? If he/she does not have a camera or if he/she has other brand's camera, can I bring him/her along to this programme?

Guys, I chanced upon some info that there are shops in Japan providing rental services for lens. Do we have such shop in Malaysia?
