Because it's not the defenders job, it should have been Mikel/Rami. This game shows the deficiency of Mikel's game: he doesn't read the game well defensively and is lazy when tracking opponent's run. While Rami isn't smarter then Mikel, at least his pace and energy makes up for his poor anticipation. I think this is the kind of game that would have been better with Raul or Essien in the pivot, but unfortunately the club sent them away - one of them permanently even. Chelsea need at least one Makalele type DM for these kind of games, and they don't have anybody like that in the team.

Chelsea are simply burned out. 2 matches per week for the last month with practically the same set of players will get you this. I don't understand why RDM don't play Moses, Studge and Marin more. Marin haven't even started this season. Fortunately no midweek game this time, time to recuperate.

I disagree. It's not that Moses is "bad", it's just that RDM is using him as more as defensive cover so that Mata can push forward further, instead of a true winger. He sits a bit too deep to make much impact attacking. Besides, the formation make it that attacks from the flank comes from the fullbacks, where he is most dangerous. Unless Moses is utilized properly by changing the way the team plays, Moses will always seem "bad" compared to the rest of the attacking trio.
