i think the main reason is that roman abramovich thinks rafa will unleash the old fernando torres. the torres of liverpool, the red hot striker. if rafa benitez can do this then i see all the sense in recruiting him.

because all roman wants is to see the player he signed become a hit. he flopped with kezman and sheva, and i dont think he wants to add torres to that list.

last time rafa was in liverpool he brought UCL success to the team. while i dont expect him to repeat that this year, i fully expect him to carry chelsea to qualify for next year's by becoming the BPL champions.

but did he ever won the league whilst at liverpool? i thought his team's specialty is cup competitions

In the process of doing that, he's known to rake up a reputation to favour direct passing, high pressing high tempo, and rotate squads purely for the tactical basis to nullify opposition, as long as his favoured striker is in peak.

so i guess we'll be seeing a new striker if he fails to reignite torres. and even if my blood doesnt bleed blue, i've always a soft spot for chelsea back when they had duff, gudjohnsen and jesper gronkjaer in the team, those were the times when frank lampard and john terry were starting to show their quality. a shame to see RDM leave, but welcome on the (possibly short) ride, benitez.

i see no reason why mazacar wont keep their place. torres will play up front, mazacar occupying the line behind him with mata and hazard operating wide, and mikel + another center mid behind them. it'd be interesting how rafa takes the game to the champions - david silva is starting to look like the silva of last year.

^ heard it's because lampard and cole have too much dressing room influence and roman does not like it.

read somewhere that they dont even care if chelsea got a win, as long as they get their feelings towards RB out.

after a few wins they might change their mind

chelsea has been relying on juan mata's form for the season. now that he's hit a slight slump chelsea's struggling. hazard and torres helped a little during the start, but after that it's all mata.
