Hello All, I am running following distros;
1) Linux Mint Debian (Xfce) on Dell Inspiron 6000 2) Linux Kororaa (Gnome 3, Fedora based) on Compaq Presario V3000 3) OpenSuse (KDE) on Desktop with AMD CPU
The Compaq Presario V3000 is actually a dual-boot of; 1) Windows 7 Professional (250GB partition) & 2) Linux Kororaa (250GB partition)
In addition, I have Knoppix (Lxde) installed on USB key - I have used it while traveling or waiting in airports - it really does give you extended battery life...
So far the only challenge is printing - the printer / scanner / all-in-one printer support is really sub-standard in Linux. Since couple of years ago I have made it a purchase policy that all printers shall be HP ONLY. HP really does a good job of Linux printer drivers. I have given-up on Epson, FujiXerox, etc. Canon support is spotty but why bother, HP is better if not best.
I use Windows 7 / MS Office due to file exchange with colleagues and customers. Otherwise I am quite satisfied with everything Linux has to offer.
In fact, since most of computer usage is web related we really don't miss Microsoft / Windows!
thanks.

I am using Brother DCP-J125 printer and scanner with my openSUSE. Brother is one of the printer manufacturers that offers updated linux and scanner driver regularly.

I think we should turn this into a printer thread. And boy do I have issues with printers. I have tried to connect my Debian laptop to many different brands of printers. But I have to say that Samsung printers have pulled through quite well.
I really dislike Canon and Ricoh network printers. Can't seem to get the Ricoh MP6001 to run on my Ubuntu desktop. I get garbled printing all the time. Sigh.

Looks like a Printer thread. Well, alternatively - run a virtual machine and install Windows?

I tried Linux before, but couldn't adjust to it due to its lack of mission critical software we take for granted on Windows and Mac, such as Adobe Suite. As an alternative to Photoshop, Linux people use Gimp. But old PS hands just can't switch to Gimp's way of running things. So I hit up "Photoshop Linux" on Google and found that they've successfully installed Photoshop (before CS 6) on Linux using Wine. http://www.unixmen.com/how-to-install-phot...-and-linuxmint/That's one down.

I'd say that print and scan support in Linux is improving day by day. Sane supports quite a lot of scanners. I run Debian Sid, Xubuntu Quantal and Arch in addition to OpenBSD (used as Firewall) at home. All 4 Unix boxes able to link up to my HP OfficeJet 7500a to print and scan and even fax. The one printer that was giving me a headache was my Oki C3300 color laser printer. But that one's solved since late 2010 when Foo2ZJS finally got support for HiperC. Come to think of it, Linux does have some strengths in printing where Windows fail. For example. it supports the Apple Dot Matrix printer when Windows doesn't. Sigh. http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Ricoh/...-Aficio_MP_6001It says here that the Aficio MP6001 is a PCL/PJL-XL printer, with optional PS module. See if your distro offers the pxlmono-ricoh PPD package as suggested by the website. QUOTE(khakilang @ Nov 6 2012, 12:11 PM) I still have problem with Lexmark All in one printer. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but its not really critical.

Can you check to make sure the correct PPD is chosen in CUPS? Also, check to see if your printer has the optional PostScript module or not. If your printer has the optional PostScript module installed, you should use the PostScript drivers instead. Btw, some distros ship with a buggy drivers. I've actually had issues printing to my HP OfficeJet from OpenSUSE in the past, apparently it was a buggy HPIJS driver. Under Ubuntu, it prints fine. Getting Started

I am running Arch Linux on both laptops. One acted as my hotspot which I turned it on 24/7 (who cares, old laptop is old)
Pretty much couldn't find anything that can replace Arch for me, except my education part which I heavily depend on Visual Studion for my projects.
