On the subject of divers.. I got this annoying itch that may require scratching sooner or later.

What I really really wanted is a 1960's Seamaster 300 but figured that it won't be practical sad.gif .. even the "NOS" ones.

Alternatively... a CWC Royal Navy diver seems to fit the bill (tritium (really?) and fixed lug bars wub.gif ) but didn't like the "quartz" marking on the dial and the fact that can only get it new via Silverman in London.

Then came across this Kronos sterile "homage" (also read up about it at the above blog). I like the look and its cheap at ~RM300. What do you guys think?

ps: the kronos is not real tritium despite the marking.

@sniper on the roof, I like the SM300 also.
Why don't consider the modern interpretation? Pre-loved Omega Seamaster 2254.50?
*
Dunno, something not quite right about the 2254's bezel. Why oh why Omega couldn't stick to one design language and evolve from there.

QUOTE(h11g @ Nov 27 2012, 02:39 PM)
btw the lume on the sd is the brighter even compared to the latest 114060 sub?
*
Rolex lume not as power as Omega or Seiko for that matter.

Not sure which is brighter but SD is green lume, whereas 114060 is blue.

I think all the newer models are Listerine blue doh.gif

My wife's oyster perpetual ladies is even blue + green rclxub.gif

Why not go for the CWC Automatic RN Diver instead? Silvermans do international shipping too. Cheaper than flying over there.. laugh.gif

All watch manufacturers stopped using tritium+phosphor mixture in watches circa 1997. My tritium TAG-Heuer watch that will be exactly 20 years old next month still glows very faintly.
CWC watches now have a circled L instead of a T. I'd be cautious buying one with a circled T without provenance.
*
Already emailed silverman awaiting their reply.

ps: circled L does look really out of place though.

You could inquire with them whether they could make custom watch with a dial without the circled L.

Maybe it is a current UK Defense Watch Standard that you can check here:
https://sts.defencegateway.mod.uk (Requires registration)
*
I didn't register but from what I read, current UK MoD issue watches are just standard off the shelf models with engraving on the caseback.

Did came across this though.. have to download the doc file.

With no intention to derail the current topic but just came across this that I wanna share. Omega 2254 with PO parts ... looks sweet doesn't it?

Hi everyone,
I was doing some window shopping when I came across this Orient watch. The salesman tell me it is one of the Orient SP series.

It is priced at RM430 and a discount of 25% will be given. How do you guys think of this as a simple dress watch for dinner occasions? I am a fresh graduate now so budget is limited but of course they will be plans for future upgrades once my income is secured. Very interested in collecting watches so please guide me. tongue.gif
*
Looks nice for the money. I don't think can get anything else with sapphire crystal for $430 less discount.

Chopin,
It is battery driven, we call that quartz? Not auto. I am also attracted by its looks too when I am looking around.

P/S: doh.gif Pardon my noobness lol. Still a newbie here trying to learn. blush.gif

There's no seconds hand so can't tell if it's quartz or mechanical anyway. laugh.gif

Tell-tale signs

- faux "tourbillon" escapement cutout on the dial.
- kok story on the brand
- seriously trying too hard with the European names.
- the website as a whole laugh.gif

For automatics, cheapest is Orient @ USD108

Citizen mainly do eco-drives and complicated looking watches while Seiko nicer dress watch are usually more than RM600.

Which of these looks more appropriate for dinner/special occasion?
*
I'm with Yonggoh on this.

Definition of "classic" : a particular style, something of lasting worth or with a timeless quality

Instead of getting a watch for the occassion... and some other watches when the occasion occurs, why not get something timeless that you can wear 10 years or more down the road.

It's also cheaper in the long run.

Alternatively... if budget's tight.... then maybe a Tissot like the T-Classic Tradition.

Its a classy looking, thin, light, fashionably sized at 42mm, very thin and could make a nice office watch. Its also "just" a quartz but I don't reckon you're a purist and on the plus side, it should take more beating and no maintenance cost to worry about...just a battery change every couple of years.

Not located in Malaysia but at rough conversion, you should be able to get it at around ~RM800
