QUOTE(Clueless07 @ Feb 24 2013, 04:43 PM) Sorry of being attention whore. Anyone can try to suggest some nice watch in budget range of 8-12k? If you want something timeless with some provenance and something relevant 10 years down the road..I am mid 30, mainly to wear to work and casual dinner. Don't have many big formal event to attend to. Currently with a Tissot sports watch, still look nice but sort of got bored liao - used vintage rolex datejust stainless with new good leather strap - used omega speedmaster professional ref:3570 or 3573 - used rolex explorer 1 - used Grand Seiko - new Longines Legend Diver non date if you can find one. - i think the cal. 2500 Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra still available. Just my 2 cents This post has been edited by sniper on the roof: Feb 24 2013, 05:56 PM |

QUOTE(putterbit @ Feb 26 2013, 03:24 PM) something that I've been wondering, not sure how most guys pull off with a 40-42mm watch...I'm only 162cm and 65kg (yeah a little plum). don't seems to have many choice for something bigger within that similar budget/brands right? most of my mates comment that I look weird with a 40mm... Not a fan of overly large watches or Breitling for that matter.kinda digging the breitling superocean 44...could be a good option too right? Different strokes for different folks i guess. |

If you're into big.. the Hamilton Pan Europ is pretty chunky... quite interesting too but have to change that awful leather strap.

I think he got his PO since season 18.. but point is... first time see the hamster with the Sub. Usually he just wears carrera and speedy's.
Edit: Still watching 19x5 as I'm posting this but on the second half of the episode... Hammond switched to a Breitling Navitimer and there was a couple of shots whereby Clarkson was on the PO and then next second on the same scene, he was wearing the IWC. QUOTE(tcken @ Feb 27 2013, 12:01 AM) thats true though. I'm just hoping to spend the money wisely to get a worthy and nice watch. Oris / Tag heuer / Maurice and Ball, which is the better brand ? Cause I'm really new to watch and this is my first luxury watch. I'm looking for polite and elegance style in fact. Which is the better brand to you?Because everyone also have different perception. It varies across location, age group, income level, social circle and how nuts they are about watches Among the brands you mention and since you mention its your first swiss watch, I think Ball's Engineer II Red Label is one of the more versatile choice. It's got all the base covered, 40mm or 43mm sizes, looks good on bracelet or strap, COSC 2836 movement so accuracy's good, got daydate, very nice looking teak dial (the grey version in particular), can dress up or dress down. Basically an Aqua Terra at 1/3 the price and more features. QUOTE(patryn33 @ Feb 27 2013, 02:31 AM) Rolex drops a lot too!! Was just in sg a mth ago those ladies Rolex pre own is going for sgd$5k+, when u want to trade it in to these place they only willing to pay ~sgd$1700! Ladies watch regardless of brand also have no second hand value.Sell online on forums u get more money, sell to shops expect big loss even with Rolex. |

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Feb 27 2013, 11:12 AM) No value? U make it sound like give away free and shops can sell it at full profit. Maybe its a wrong choice of word but I find that ladies watches seems to retain value proportionately lower than men watches.anyway, 2nd hand value depends on how desperate one wanna get rid of watch. walk into pawn shop with a popular daytona U think they pay U well? if they pay so well why would ppl sell on forums.. LOL |

QUOTE(B747-4H6 @ Feb 27 2013, 08:07 PM) X-wind from the pilot series is a tad smaller but the leather strap looks sturdy IMHO. Well since you already have a PO... SMP will be redundant right? Also I'm in need of an opinion for another omega purchase. Should I go for the SMP or the Speedy (non co-axial keep it old school haha)? |

QUOTE(tcken @ Feb 27 2013, 08:47 PM) I'm bored with my Emporio Armani watch but most of my friends always comment its not a wise choice of buying a fashion brand watch. Probably I'll go for leather watch cause my wrist is skinny. I saw most of the Maurice watches are come with leather. I'll check the watch out when I travel to KL next week. Second value is just an insurance what if one day I get bored with the watch so i can sell it away without that pain. :0 Well... that's one way of looking at it. But if that's the case, wouldn't you be better off just buying new fashion watches every once a while from the money you're gonna lose you flip your watch. On the other hand, my 2 cent is to get something that works/presentable with every situation from all dressed up to selipar tat seng... something robust and clean along the lines of the classical sports watch (Rolex Explorer 1, Omega Aqua Terra for example) in a modest size between 38mm to 40mm. As for bracelet or strap.. the watch size, lug length and design matters more for how it looks on your wrist than bracelet or strap. If you stick to watches with standard lug size (say 20mm, 22mm etc) there's a gazillion choices around the web for different leather straps for all budget and you can get as good if not better quality straps for half the price of the "ori" strap. This of course leaves Oris out of the equation since they like to use proprietary lugs. On the other hand, if you get one with a strap, then you'll have a problem getting a bracelet later as your only option will be getting a very expensive ori bracelet as in most cases, you can't get an aftermarket endlink that fits your watch perfectly. [quote=bernard79,Feb 28 2013, 06:45 PM] The price sounds too good to be believed for this BALL Engineer red label... If US asking price is around 2600 dollars, then 2900 MYR is way too cheap! Are you refer to this model? Thanks [/quote Of course not the red label. 2900 is for my fireman racer. Red label if not mistaken is around10k retail. After discount bout 7.5k ++ gua. Though some are quite interesting but at the end.. I think it's an uphill task for the fashion brand to get into high end watches.
A real life example was the senior VP of the company that I'm working... he's very well dressed and all but not really a watch person and he wore a tambour until one day in one of those casual office events, he got gelak by my female colleagues. Now he collect Panerais |

QUOTE(twho @ Mar 1 2013, 03:19 PM) Saving up for a new purchase probably at the end of the year. I prefer the SARB. The cocktail time posted recently (forgot if its this or the Seiko thread) looks so sweet.Looking at Seiko SARB Presage, Orient Star Retrogade or go Swiss with Tissot Visodate. Which one you guys think is a better buy or any other opinions?? Auto and preferably below 42mm (skinny hands) Budget below 2.2k Thanks The Visodate disproportionately large day/date window a bit kacau. Also don't like the pressure fit caseback. The Orient Star imo looks a bit too busy. Off topic, maybe its just me but can't get over the fake "HEV" on the Mako and the fake "moonphase" on the Sun&Moon below. It looks very nice and was quite surprised at the pricing.. then realized its priced like that for a reason ![]() |

QUOTE(B747-4H6 @ Mar 2 2013, 02:20 AM) Non on the hand, as for a dial it's pretty dim. I guess the tritium passed it's half life already. What do you think of taking it to RSC and changing the dial to a newer one? If i were you, i'll leave the dial alone. Maybe polywatch the crystal abit but just that. |

QUOTE(twho @ Mar 3 2013, 02:28 PM) Can you explain to me what you mean by fake moonphase? True moonphase as the name says.. Displays the different stages of the moon as you see it in the night sky. The moonphase wheel rotates one cycle every 29.5 days.Nearly bought that one last year That Orient's called Sun & moon which basically is an am/pm indicator made to look like a moonphase. |
