Short review of my new watch... well... not exactly new since it belongs to a family member.
Dial: I like the applied indices the most, as it turns between shades of silver to black in different lighting conditions. The dial itself while a little busy for my liking, is actually quite legible as the shocking red hands provides excellent contrast and adds to a sporty persona Case: The daring yellow (a shade lighter than Yohan Blake's controversial Richard Mille) non-metallic synthetic material works wonders for shock protection at situations that'll make a Rolex cry like a baby. I've accidently dropped it at least 3 feet onto wood floor with no problems at all. Movement: Excellent accuracy (no long term testing but didn't see any deviations in 24 hour) so far since its quartz though I suspect its not thermo compensated HE quartz. Was curious to pop open the case back but I didn't wanna ruin the hologram caseback sticker. Only question is... Do you guys think its too small for my wrist? » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

QUOTE(Everdying @ Feb 20 2013, 10:59 PM) for cars, the class classification is more of size right...rather than the engine. But then how to classify a good movement? Accuracy? Complication? when a cheapo quartz rapes a tourbilloncos when the sports car category comes in, where some are of cos smaller than a B segment...then of cos it skews the whole thing so the watch should also be compared on movement and not so much the price / size. |

QUOTE(Everdying @ Feb 20 2013, 11:14 PM) Comparative la.... Me thinks the "value" of the watch is not quantifiable or break down into logical thinking one cos logically it doens't make sense to spend so much on watches Image/Prestige also depend on who you speak to... everyone got different impression of different brands. So to me... value is syiok sendiri |

QUOTE(Tij @ Feb 21 2013, 01:46 PM) Can all of ya'll watch enthusiasts recommend me a brand or model of a watch that is quite robust? Especially for the glass in front of the watch (Don't know what is it called) as I'm prone to accidentally knocking my watch on inanimate objects lol. Budget?I'm thinking of changing my watch soon as there is a small crack beside the glass (Not that visible though) with water vapors under my watch. Thanks!!! P.S. Recommendations - Just not so expensive please like Rolex etc. I'm still an undergrad student. |

QUOTE(Tij @ Feb 21 2013, 01:59 PM) Hmm, well that's the problem. Maybe below RM500? I've really got no idea on the prices for good watches (And brands). I think, my current old Casio watch cost me around RM100 something only during that time when I bought it and it lasted for a good 3 - 4 years. If your main concern are budget and toughness... the folks that shoot guns, jump off airplanes, fly jet fighters usually go for these.G-shocks. QUOTE(Clueless07 @ Feb 21 2013, 02:44 PM) Lol... intending to go check at subang parade- as dinner near there later today. Sacrilege!!! the purist don't consider it a true moonwatch since its co-axial and besides automatics don't work in space.Pyramid very jam n parking susah, may be another time. Anyway- go there tok kok sing song only. get more gian only buy. i am interested at Speedmaster Moonwatch co-axial ( steel+leather) but may be in stretch my budget too much ( close to 20k i think...) QUOTE(Tij @ Feb 21 2013, 03:39 PM) Thank you very much I shall look into it, but what I meant by robust is just the glass in front of the watch which are usually prone to getting scratches and in my case, a very tiny broken hole. And I don't plan on jumping off air planes and doing deep underwater dives anytime soon. The G-shock range can be quite confusing but I think the GA-150 analog+digital range is within your budget. The prices of that brand varies right? Some are really cheap but some cost a bunch (The difference is so huge I also prefer analog type watches, G-Shocks mostly are digital types though but I understand because digital watches enables the user (e.g. Military members) to have a quicker acquisition of the current time I guess. For more traditional types of watches where the crystal is more exposed, most more affordable watches uses mineral crystal/hardlex (among many other names) which are prone to scratching. More expensive ones uses sapphire crystal which are scratch proof but they do shatter if hit and the right place. |

QUOTE(Clueless07 @ Feb 22 2013, 02:24 PM) din manage to see the actual watch... manage to chit chat with a friendly sales person there. He seems to be young and bit noob on watches and movement, yet he patiently assisted to check the price for me. Yes sir... cartoon watches have a lot of WIN.found that the 9300 would cost rm24k after discount. Checking other omega models which suits my liking, also around rm20k... Guess my Project Tergendala for now.... this way stretch my budget too much. gotto wear back my mickey mouse to work |

I love Bond trivias...
Also although the PO first appeared in Quantum of Solace, Mr.Bond Daniel Craig himself offscreen is more of a Rolex person. He's often spotted with his vintage Submariner, Daytona and Milgauss. He even wore Rolex to the movie's premier... that is until Omega signed him as their ambassador. As for Bond watch.... " Only one brand is specifically named as that secret agent’s watch in Fleming’s original 14 Bond editions: Rolex. The greatest detail comes in his eleventh book, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, published in 1963. Here we read of the “big luminous numerals” that Bond sees when taking a lazy midnight glance at his chronometer, “a heavy Rolex Oyster Perpetual on an expanding metal bracelet.” The watch is a Rolex Explorer I." http://commanderbond.net/9409/found-james-bonds-rolex.html Fleming's Rolex Explorer ref:1016 ![]() This post has been edited by sniper on the roof: Feb 23 2013, 05:19 PM |
