I usually spend about $450 per week for a room in NYC on Airbnb.
Food is cheap. I usually spend $10-25 per day for 3 meals at street vendors or delis in NYC ($1.50 for a bagel breakfast, $3-5 each for a falafel or shawarma for lunch and dinner)

Entertainment and sightseeing can get very expensive, but certainly not worth trying to skimp on food in my opinion.

My actual spend (accommodation, food, car rental/airport transfer/train) for my last trip in 2018 not including flights and shopping (3 days in SF, 6 days in NYC, 1 day in HK) was about RM5k.

Good luck!

food is cheap in NYC ? what kind of drug are you smoking...

street vendors food sucks (so fucking dirty the way they prepare it) and overprice (mostly trying to scam tourist).

i don't see the point of @JustcallmeLarry travelling thousand of miles away just to eat street vendors or deli in NYC, there are so many nice/decent restaurant around upper east side, lower east side and west village with slight premium when comes to pricing. Heck even Brooklyn has once of the best brunch compare to Manhattan

coming here regularly for work don't mean anything at all, your information is truly misleading

i'm telling the above as someone who has been living permanently in NYC since 2017

@JustcallmeLarry
i don't mean to be an asshole but 10K MYR is worthless when convert to USD, maybe you should choose another country for vacation instead, trying to be frugal during vacation really kill the whole experiences especially there are so many things to see in US not just NYC alone.

Sometimes travelling does not mean hunting for the best food in that country ... I am more interested in what the lay people eat day in and day out.. whether it is nice or not is not that important ...The best food is not representative of the staple food in a country ... of course, we try to sample a little bit of high end and low end la

a typical new yorker won't even eat those street cart for sure, there are some pretty decent deli around the city though.

i never mention anything about high end food, i say nice/decent restaurant around downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn. Time square is a trap for tourist, go for sight seeing is fine but never ever dine there.

i not saying that 10k MYR is not doable in nyc, but is hard when you have to balance air ticket/food/transportation and sight seeing. NYC is a expensive city, everything here is about MONEY MONEY MONEY.

those days are long gone, things are getting more and more expensive, even a shitty breakfast from a deli would cost at least $6 - $7

10k MYR is definitely doable for 1 week in NYC, and you dont have to stay on Manhattan if you are on budget. The train connection is pretty good, so you can stay at Brooklyn, or better at Long Island City which i dont see people mention much, its only 2-3 stops away from time square!

Food from street cart is absolutely the worst, but you can try once for the novelty of it. If you want bagel please take a look at google map and go to the nearest local bakery for it, for cheap breakfast, or the lox bagel which would cost $7-$10 per piece and it is so good!

Same applies to pizza/kebab etc, find a take out place for them not from the street vendor. 2 pcs pizza will definitely fill u up

Get a new york city pass too you can save a lot on admission to places like Empire building, museums etc.

Most visitors only need service for a month or less and there are many prepaid plans about USD$25-50 for that, including the short options for the company discussed below.

For multiple visits or long visits, I found that TRACFONE 90 days for USD$19.95 was the best deal provided you need only moderate usage - only 500MB data, 60 minutes voice, 200 texts (as I remember). You buy the starter pack at Target etc for $1 or so, with three SIMs, then to activate, must purchase separate add ons like the 90 day or 30 day or data only etc. These are also available at supermarkets and convenience stores, or online from their nice app. Their CS is patient and helpful.

T-Mobile was the best SIM. There were problems using the AT&T SIM with my Redmi. Verizon is only for CDMA phones. As long as the account is within the validity date, the balances carry over into top ups. One drawback, incoming and TRACFONE system texts get deducted. International calls to many Asian countries are charged same as local EXCEPT MALAYSIA !!! No international roaming. If you anticipate heavier usage, it might be better to start with their non 90 day plans or compare other companies. The next general 30 dayl top up was $15, included a lot more and I couldn't use it up on my trip.

Even cheap supermarket ready made meal packs, sandwiches, salads, are usd$5 only on special offer. Typically most deli and even mall food court items are $10-15. A bakery item and a drink for breakfast will be easily $10 if you are lucky (some places taxable, tips). Some time during the day (week?!?) you've got to eat some protein to stay alive, so it's hard to imagine $10 a day is possible.

Depending on where you're going, Cathay will almost always be one of the more expensive options. I've taken Cathay, Eva, Singapore, Lufthansa, Qatar, Emirates, Etihad, Turkish over the past 4-5 years. When flying economy they're roughly the same. If you want better pay the money for JAL Sky Wider economy class.

China Eastern/Southern can be very cheap, close to RM3k. I've never flown on it. Philippines Air can be as cheap as RM2.6-3k, a friend just took the flight earlier in July and was happy with it.

If you're lucky you can get premium economy on Singapore Airlines to Newark for ~RM6k return, they've been having sales on and off since early this year. Alternatively during sales you can get business class on Saudia for RM8k although I haven't seen that fare since around Oct/Nov 2018. I fly Cathay because I sometimes drop by HK for meetings.

You should try Eva Air, better than ANA.
JAL will be my 2nd option because JAL economy seat are best in skytrax and I personnel try many times, it really the best due to extra leg room and very comfortable seat.

Singapore airlines is having a promo now until 30th Sept 2019. Travel period is between 5 Sept 2019 - 31 July 2020. So for those traveling around this time to Seattle or Los Angeles, do take advantage of the cheap flight.

I do not intend to leave airport, just want to make sure I can make it to next leg of flight..

Found the info on this site: visaforchina.org

"4. Foreigners who have confirmed onward tickets and seats on international flights and directly transit through China and stay for no more than 24 hours within the airport boundaries do not need to apply for a transit visa. However, anyone desiring to go beyond the airport boundaries temporarily should obtain permission from the immigration authorities at the airport."

Will be at USA from 15/12 to 1/1 this year

1. Where can i buy the traveler's sim card online?
2. Is 50 dollars a day enough for food and transport? I have booked all my flights and accommodation (will be visiting Boston, D.C, Orlando and NYC).
3. I am planning to visit the Kennedy Space Center via the tour. Should i buy the ticket online first or it is also alright to buy it when i am present in Orlando?
