myr4k for return flight would be enough if you book early. Check out http://www.skyscanner.com.my/

accomodation depends, if youre on tight budget perhaps you should check out "airbnb" smile.gif

meals 30usd/day? not sure.

30 usd a day is OK actually if u willing to be open on ur choices..maybe some croissant n coffee in the morning for 3-4USD...then go for sandwich/pizza joints for lunch which will cost u less than 10 USD with drinks...or u can also go for fast food joints n definitely can get 5-6 USD set menu..night time depends on what u want to eat..u can go cheap like small chinese take out, indian food, midditreanean, jamaican, bbq joints..which wont hurt ur budget at all or go nice restaurant like steak, italian, greek, french which can go from 30 USD up...the nice thing about new york is its a big melting pot for various culture..so u can find anything with any budget...how do i know?I was a student there..

If you want cheaper rate hotel, Stay at Jersey City or Newark instead of New York City......just separate by Hudson river only.

1. get a T-Mobile prepaid tourist SIM, I think it's US$30 (+ tax) for 2GB valid for 21 days
2. get Flexiroam SIM (or eSIM), you're still > 30 days from travel so you can get local US data 3GB for roughly US$13.50. Note this is data only, the T-Mobile is data + calls/sms
3. get Digi prepaid, sign up for 3 day roaming for RM25 (2GB data for each 3 days) via the app

I've done all three, I go to the US very regularly, sometimes short (5 days?), sometimes longer (5 weeks). In your case, since you're there only for 9 days, I'd recommend the second one. You have data the moment you land, you don't need to look for a SIM.

Digi is also an option, although slightly more expensive and slightly less convenient (you have to turn on the roaming every 3 days) but it's seriously the easiest to setup. Buy prepaid SIM, top up, download MyDigi app and go

While you're in Orlando, I do recommend checking Kennedy Space Center's launch schedule, you might be able to watch a rocket launch which is an amazing experience if you get to the closer stations.

Thank you!

Didn't know about the Digi prepaid option. Since I have a dual sim slot that might work the best smile.gif I'd be able to get 6GB (if maximized fully) in total for 3x3 days subscription and 1.5 hours call time for RM75, not too bad considering.

The US is a big place, some places can be very cheap, others are expensive.

The flight ticket alone is RM3-4k depending on when and where you go which leaves around RM1k per day for food, lodging, transport etc. More than enough IMO for anywhere including NYC. If you're already spending that money and time (48 hours on the plane return roughly), I'd say extend the stay a bit. My usual trips to NYC are typically around RM4k for a week including everything except flights and shopping

I usually spend about $450 per week for a room in NYC on Airbnb.
Food is cheap. I usually spend $10-25 per day for 3 meals at street vendors or delis in NYC ($1.50 for a bagel breakfast, $3-5 each for a falafel or shawarma for lunch and dinner)

Entertainment and sightseeing can get very expensive, but certainly not worth trying to skimp on food in my opinion.

My actual spend (accommodation, food, car rental/airport transfer/train) for my last trip in 2018 not including flights and shopping (3 days in SF, 6 days in NYC, 1 day in HK) was about RM5k.

Good luck!

How’s the quality of Airbnb for the price you paid? I am particular about bed linen/ pillows cleanliness ... price is damn cheap...

SF the hotels are more expensive than in New York ... maybe because fewer good hotels

The last one I had in 2018 was on 95th and Lex (upper east side) and was someone's personal bedroom so was clean. I used it while she was away on a trip. The previous one on the lower east side was a dedicated Airbnb room and was clean too.
I'm still trying to decide where to stay on my next trip in July.

I rented a car in SFO so I could actually go for the super cheap hotels, unfortunately I forgot about tolls across the bay bridges but it wasn't so bad.

I think the last Airbnb room I had that was meh was in Perth about 3 years ago, but we were there for only 1 night so I didn't care so much.

You could bring your own linens and blankets if you're particular about cleanliness.
