My goes up to 2.3k when starting and decreases to about 1.8k while idling which I think is quite high. The car gives lots of vibrations and causing rattles noises everywhere in the car after starting. blush.gif

Anyone can identify the problem here? Engine mounting?

*The car is an unmodded Toyota Wish 1.8 2003

What car?
3 cylinders engine tend to have higher idling RPM than 4 cylinders.
Kancil 660/850 & Myvi 1.0 tend to idle at 1.4k RPM

Then it seems that mine is abnormally high. Even my Honda Accord CB4 which is 20+ years old goes only 800.

Yup too high already. Most probably the butterfly valve that controls your air intake is leaking. Hence your idle RPM is higher that normal.

During idle, the butterfly valve will let in small amount of air (O2) to let your engine breathe and alive. Pressing the throttle will open the valve accordingly.

i think when idling, the idle speed sensor will determine our idling speed base on the engine temperature. when the engine is cold, the rpm will high a bit. and will the rpm will drop down when the engine is already warm. maybe that sensor need to be cleaned to make it work properly. cleaning your throttle body also might help as the sensor hole is located at the throttle body.

i usually press the gas pedal slightly (few seconds only) after starting the car in the mornings. it makes the engine sounds better while warming up LOL

I'd say around 700-1000, depending on if aircon on or not.

I don't warm up the engine at all. Start it when I want to get moving, put in gear and go. I never warmed up the engine in Europe either, with temperatures < -10°C. Really not needed in Malaysia...

I dont understand why majourity of TOYOTA VVTI equipped engines, are programmed to rev 2000RPM for few seconds, then drop slowly.

Even MYVI does that, but less obvious.

But it seems that you might have a engine mounting problem. Have your mech check that out for you.

You mean when cold start? 2k RPM seems abit high, the Vios at home only revs to 1.5k RPM for 30-60 seconds then return to normal idling speed.

It's normal.

That's your ECU injecting more fuel to warm up your engine to optimum temperature.

Not true, my Mark X only gets up to about 1200rpm then drops to around 800, which is normal for just about any other brands too.

Okay, maybe not 2000rpm. (cause i dont own a toyota). It revs up to 1500rp, like u said, and then slowly drops down, but not 30secs that long.
This is what i noticed from Those 2.0,2.4L AZ-FE series found in Camry,Estima, Harrier.

Wish i dunno. but myvi is like that..but it's normal..stated inside the owners manual. after a few mins..the idling rpm will be like 900-1000rpm.
