PHewwwwwwwww!! dang! just managed to revive my s3

so close to get it send for mobo replacement due to corrupted EFS partition that throw my s3 in bootloop and no signal, cannot wifi, no bluetooth.. Means my s3 became a RM1.6k digital picture frame cry.gif

anyway, learnt alot from this experience.. for those who like to flash, my advice is nandroid backup is useless when it comes to EFS corrupted, which might happened if u are unlucky or flash the wrong thing.. only a manual backup of ur EFS partition is going to help.. so, faster backup your EFS partition with EFS Pro or equivalent.. at least with backup efs, u can get back ur IMEI which is going to determine whether u can use ur phone as a phone or as a luxury portable media player.. i think i will remember my whole life the word EFS thumbup.gif

That's the beauty of Android..CHOICES..!!
Pick your own style in how you want to exit/close an app.
Press home button..use back button..use task manager..use task killer..or whatever else you want.
This is not fruit phone where there is only one way..the fruity way..!!
*
just that some dev decided that back button means close, some minimize.. and lead to confusion.. no consistency.. i prefer like short back = minimize, long pressed back = exit

Why not? Try typing reply half way, and you switch to other apps and do other stuffs. If there's not enough memory, your browser will be killed automatically without the user knowing, when you switch back, it reloads back the page, altough you're still back at the page, but what you type is previously is gone. It's a common issue, if you have use Android phones with less/lower memory and mutli-task, this happens frequently and is an annoyance.

Pre-loading and Re-loading is not just bloatware and not just Samsung. I used Sony before and I monitor the apps in memory, many apps and games are pre-loaded into memory even you're not running or using them. They do take up memory and once killed you see free memory, but they will restart again. In XDA forums, it's mentioned that this is the OS "smart" way so that you can access your app almost "instantly" instead of waiting for it to "load" from fresh. Personally, I prefer let user to choose, I prefer to decide which app I want to allow.

Yes, for general/most people, the "auto" is nice and good enough. I'm just saying, it'll be even nicer if it let user more choice, to customize and decide which they prefer. I don't want my apps getting auto-killed for no reason or the OS decide to kill the one which is important.
This would be an improvement if available, afterall, Android is more flexible. Would be nice to see this available, just as how we can now FINALLY, turn off notifications of individual apps/games from Application Manager. Now user can choose and decide, which they want to allow and which they don't.

might not relevent here but to giv u better experience..
maybe u should try some multitasking mod, thr are 2 types, one using internal mem and another using sdcard to act as virtual mem.. 1gb ram in s3 really undermine its hardware power

did you mean this ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1888081

if yes can teach how to do it ?
using wanamlite 4.2.1 now @@
*
ya.. that is one of what i mentioned.. it uses internal memory as v.ram.. pros, internal always faster and therefore notice less lag.. but one huge prob is it wears down the non replaceable internal memory..

another one is what i more prefer by yank555.. it uses external memory as a vram.. i tried that but due to my poor class 4 sdcard, i notice massive lag but one thing for sure for a few short test, auto kill didnt kick in as long as the vram still available and i resume my task at the exact point whr it is minimized

i cannot guide on the bestMultiTaskingFix as i did not use .. for yank555, u need a kernel that support Swap and need to create a Linux Swap partition in ur sdcard using tool like Minitools partition.. how many is up to u.. the dev recommend 256mb enuf, but for me, i used 512mb, even tested 768mb.. remember must also be a primary drive instead of logical..

then u flash the mod with the sdcard inserted ready, after boot up, u can check whether it is running by using the emulator by typing "free"

anything under the SWAP must be >0, if not, then not doing it right

i never noticed until only saw that 4 edges of my S3 got a small line. is it normal or is it considered as hairline crack? i dont know is it already like this when i buy or what... it has a small and thin line at the 4 edges
*
me got that also but didnt bother me, get it on the first day but it look more like a join than a crack to me.. so i ignore it and just telling myself "no wonder people crying out loud about samsung build quality"

but going to check demo set next time and if demo dont have then i will be looking to find a way to get free warranty too
haha

but the link I post just now is multi tasking
not swap between sdcard and phone memory
*
i think u have mistaken the concept of secondary storage(non volatile memory such as NAND) swap and swap as in linux memory management(RAM)

http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2012/02/linux-...ache-shared-vm/

secondary storage 'swap' i not interested coz 11gb of internal memory is enuf for me as i am not the one who put lots of multimedia files inside my phone

Hi,

I have some prob with my S3.. If took longer than usual to get full charge.. i usually charge when it's about 13%.. this happen few weeks back.. before this it took around 2hr to get full.. now it took roughly 4hr or more.. izzit my battery prob?

thanks
*
might be charger prob, might be software prob, might be battery prob.

hope i can help on that particular prob but one thing need to advise
better dont charge only when it near depletion.. it will strain the li-ion battery heavily.. less depth of charge(DoD = 100% - remaining charge, dont know how to explain in word sad.gif ) will prolong the batt life(increase it recharge cycle)..

so, at which level recommended to charge? what if emptied the battery (until phone shutdown) and charge to full? Which one is the good way of charge?
*
empty all is a no-no.. it is equal to 100% Depth of charge which according to data of battery university(link below) the li-ion cycle is only 300-500..

when u charge while ur batt shows 50% (DoD = 50), cycle increase more than 2 times (1200-1500), means reduce half of the depth, u got more than twice the benefits

lvl recommend i think hard to recommend cos it depends on many things.i charge mine around when reached 30-40%.. just to giv u the real concept rather than some myths floating aroud

Awesome! Nice info there.  thumbup.gif  Now I understand how to take care of my precious battery.  rclxms.gif

But what if i wanna calibrate my battery once in a while? According to what i've read, need to discharged until phone shut down and charged untill full, then discharged again, then charged back to full, then done calibrate. No?
*
i dont know how android handle calibration cos android stored a file bout battery stat in the os not the battery and google around doesnt have a consistent answer, some say this some say that so i chosen force calibration thru an app called.. battery calibration by Nema

inside the app got instruction on how to do it and its concept is like what the batt uni is..
