QUOTE(masao343 @ Nov 5 2012, 09:58 AM) actually the car wont stop any faster with ABS. it just prevent steering lock-up during over-braking. His wheel locked, thats why he wished for those

QUOTE(davidke20 @ Nov 5 2012, 10:58 AM) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Seems like latest topic is about brakes. Let talk about brake then.
Master brake cylinder: change to a bigger size brake cylinder can have greater pedal assistant. Meaning when u have a bigger brake pump, you don't need to step so hard on pedal to achieve braking power.
Brake caliper: it contain a brake cylinder inside the caliper, when receive hydraulic pressure, it pushes the piston out, piston will push ob the brake pad, brake pad will create friction on the disc rotor to create stopping force
Disc brake rotor: few different type of disc rotor floating in the market. Older/smaller power vehicle came with solid single layer disc rotor, such as Kancil/Kelisa/Wira 1.3. There are similar size but dual layer disc rotor from imported Lancer/Mira. Between the 2 layer rotor is a venting design that allows heat to be release quickly as rotor spin. Slotted disc will have lines on the disc surface that allow brake dust to be quickly flick out to achieve cleaner friction, but more dirty rim since brake dust being quickly expel out. Drilled disc allowed even better heat relief. Normally, on racing motorsport will have dual layer vented, slotted, drilled disc to maximize braking power.
Hub brake cylinder: it has a piston to extend the shaft when received hydraulic fluid. The shaft will push the brake shoe to a greater diameter, and the brake shoe will create friction with the brake hub to achieve braking power.
Brake hub: is a round hub that covers the brake shoe. GaGa & Gabby inheritted certain problem with thei rear brakes, include these. 1) Oval shapped brake hub. When apply brake can hear "tok tok tok" sound due to imbalance brake hub. 2) Spindle too thin. Bearing is set to run loosen, can hear "tok tok tok" sound even without braking. Worst case scenario whole rear tire will cabut together with the brake hub. 3) Senget brake cylinder. As a result the shaft tend to jam very often. After apply brake, the shaft couldn't fully retract, continue grinding the brake shoe on the hub. May increade fuel consumption, reduceed braking power and also damage the brake hub once brake shoe worn off.
The above are some basic knowledge in brakes. Here we go for slight detail on how to improve braking power:
1) Change brake pad to higher working temperature such as ceremic compound. Advantage is, it can sustain substatial of brutal brake force, but during cold it has very little braking power.
2) Chang to bigger caliper + disc rotor. This can be sure to increase braking power for the wheels. The 1st day I got back my car with a VR4 brake, I accidently glued my face on the windscreen when I apply hard brake. However, during wet season the car tend to skid a lot. This mus accommodate with tire and rim size upgrade.
3) Slot your brakeshoe before installing them. Good thing is, when you slot 1 line on the shoe, you virtually make 1 brake pad into 2. If you slot 2 lines, you have 3 brake pads! Bad thing is, those shoe tend to weaken very quickly.
4) Upgrade to wider tire, let's not forget to have a better wet grip tire to achieve maximum road holdinng power during rainny days. However, good wet grip meaning thread is deep, this type of tire very noisy and not comfortable. If good dry grip meaning the thread is thinner & course grinded, so it has more surface contact. Without proper traction thread, wet grip gone. Also make a note when you have wider tire meaning more petrol consumption due to more surface contact. So, I guess a 17" 205 tire is good 17" 205 is good, but high fc, slow pickup This post has been edited by rogrog: Nov 5 2012, 11:10 AM

The purpose of abs is to prevent our wheel from being locked. This helps us to gain traction on the road, making us easy to turn and not to skid when we emergency brake/brake hard. Its a safety feature, you'll appreciate it when it saves you.

QUOTE(ScOttY_PanG @ Nov 8 2012, 02:08 PM) in this only me or wrong calculation from me?? I find out if I drive 60 to 90 km/h and 90 to 110 km/h.. for the same distance everyday.. I can drive more millage with 90 to 110 km/h.. is my car's problem or ?? I thought the lower RPM will consume lower FC ? You reach faster, thats why.

QUOTE(davidke20 @ Nov 12 2012, 01:54 PM) Steering got noise issue: 1) If the whipipipipipip sound from engine bay, & only happened acceleration during corner, most likely ACC belt longgar/tensioner koyak. End it for replacement/tighten. 2) If every corner also sqwarking likr ark ark ark sound everytime u turn the steering wheel, powah steering fluid talak sukup, kasi tambah. Meanwhile check for leaking. By right the oil level will not go down. I drive Plotong Wigra so many years, besides of oil change, I had nvr bother to top up unless got oil leak which require immediate rectification. 3) If only happen ngek ngek sound inside cabin when turning steering, then its the ignal contact point lack of grease. Should take out steering wheel apply grease on the copper contact surface. If all above 3 is kenot rectify, and you still hear eek ekk ork ork sound, most probably steering rod sudah bengkok. Congratulations! You hit the jackpot liao This apply to all hydraulic powah steering cars. So its general knowledge. Mine got sound, but not sure what sound is that. Only during rainy days . Not sure if tyre hit fender or the one mention on top
