Dear all,

I currently facing a dilemma, whether to let go my students in a private music school and go for yamaha music school, undergo yamaha training, and all that....

What say you?

Any pros and cons.

I'll appreciate ALL advice given. icon_question.gif

what are your students learning?? piano? guitar?? drum??
it's really hard to say. it still depends on the teacher that's teaching at the centre

I'm teaching piano, and some students I've brought up for 3, 4 years, i'm actually took over students from previous teachers, but there are some whom i personally brought up.

Yesterday, i got an offer from Yamaha Music School, and i didn't realize before i applied that once sign their contract, i can't teach in other music schools anymore.

So i'm in a dillemma whether to just let go those students in the private music school that i'm teaching currently now, and go for yamaha music school, where they will be providing training and own syllabus and all that.

Second thing, will be, how high can they pay... smile.gif

Thank you. One thing i applied Yamaha in the first place is because of their JMC group class, where they have their set of teachings, for a group of children aged 4 and above.

Mind telling which school you applied for?? Actually.... legally you CAN teach private students BUT i dont know about teaching in OTHER schools.
Yamaha dont have any policy that states u cant teach private. If there is.. it is not by Yamaha. It is a policy stated in the specific school you've applied.
Just go for Yamaha and work privately with your current students??

But do take note if ur sending ur students to Yamaha.. remember that Yamaha students might not be able to take ABRSM or trinity cause of Yamaha's newly launched YPC (Yamaha Piano Course)

JMC's pure fun! u won't regret it especially if you love children!hahahaha.

THank you so much! Yes, i applied Yamaha also because of JMC. Are you a Yamaha teacher? I'm teaching in a private music school. I just got offered after audition in Yamaha Kelana Jaya, so they said if i accept their offer, i've to quit my school (current). That's why i have to choose in between two. Well, to teach my current student privately, i think it's against my principal as those are my current music school's students, so if i were to teach them privately (as in teaching them at home or teach them from their home, i presume that's what you mean), i don't think that's correct. What do you thinK?

THank you smile.gif

Yes i am a yamaha teacher but i teach guitar. i know a thing or two from my collegues about how fun JMC is =)
If ur not comfortable with teaching them privately, i would say it depends on individual students. Those that make u feel other teacher can't handle only u can, Then you should port them over to yamaha. Those hardworking students that shouldn't have any problems then maybe u can leave em be?
Im not really sure.. just do what's best for ur students =D
You feel guilty if u take em to private eh?
For me sometimes i feel that.. but if its for my students sake, i would do it. Think about it, if they dont go to you... make sure they are at least assigned to a good teacher yea? =)
