last time when Malaysia want to enter F1 for the first time, under name PETRONAS,
Malaysia hired Honda F1 engine specialist, Osamu Gotu as PETRONAS F1 chief engineer, as he successfully build the fastest ever F1 car in history for Ayrton Senna

at that time the project is called Red Bull Sauber Petronas F1 Team......
Red Bull hold 60% of the company while Malaysia with (Honda engine specialist, Osamu Gotu) hold 40% of the project, mainly focus in engine technology.

i think PROTON-HONDA partnership is related to this news

this petronas engine, the chief engineer is from Honda F1 project, Osamu Gotu who build champion car for F1 legend Ayrton Senna,
PROTON said want to revive this F1 engine project.. maybe that's this is why Proton-Honda partnership will make its official announcement in Japan today
