erhh life nowadays.. no time for leisure.. sad.gif fews days did not peep in, already new thread with close to 1000 posts.. how to keep up.. now also dunno what to discuss. laugh.gif

i remember i read in previous thread, flip case with magnet can harm the device. i have kelaideng casing with a magnet.. been using for few days, so far still ok.. but due to get sked, i don't want to use it anymore.. now my note is naked.

but, really, magnet will cause damage to the touch screen? i mean, how persistence? every case with magnet will cause it? or it depends on how strong is the magnet, and the magnet location...? (i should google this anyway. lol).. just... super curious...

on another thought, white note seems nice la.. who want to exchange with me?

Any idea how to check our phone is ap set or sme set? Sm of the forumers said tat the middle no of imei which is 05 is refering to sme set?
*
I dont think IMEI number is special for SmE or AP set. Best way is to check with SME itself using your IMEI.

But few hints u can apply:

-On the box should have blue samsung sticker that u need to tear to open the box.
-samsung sticker on screws inside the phone
-warranty card
-receive sms from SME about warranty registration

Magnet if big enough can damage touch screen if you drop it on the phone tongue.gif

But seriously, those magnets used for cases are very weak and I doubt they can actually damage touch screen, a CRT screen maybe or a spinning HD like iPod but not smartphone with flash memory..Otherwise there will be no  Apple smart covers. the only possible damage or interference is on the Wacom layer and stylus. Maybe get a case with velcro or something to be safe?
*
I tried to google about the issue. I got mixed ideas from what google replied.

Some articles says YES magnet might damage devices.

But most forum says NO, this is 21st century yo!

I think its quite important to clarify this issue. Because magnetic case are everywhere. And I just bought a flip case with magnet as well for my wifey iphone. Quite worried.

Any idea guys?

user posted image this is roughly what is inside the note 2. the strips of wires inside are what enables your s-pen to function the way it is. magnet has an effect on flow of electricity and that will impact the sensitivity depending on how strong the magnet and proximity and current level. place a magnet source long enough next to it and it can magnetise the strips of wires thus damaging the functionality of the s-pen.
Just check using sms of your imei. if it ain't registered or can't register, you got an AP set. you should also able to see the SME sticker at the back of the phone and the sirim sticker as well. failing any of that, you got an AP set tongue.gif

Oh.. I just posted a reply then saw yours.

So the issue here is the wacom thingy la? Hmm.. but still, its just a theory, any fact of this?

Is that even a problem? S-pen purposely to have hover functions. Unless it starts to writes on screen without touching the screen. Even better, hover writing. drool.gif

Got my note 2 on 20/10/12

So far:
Rooted: once
Flash custom script: twice (cwm and multiview)
Flash custom rom: 0

All above done on the second day of having this device.

Since then, happily using it. My first sammy device perfect that I dont hv to visit SC. JB is great, ready to use out of box, optimization is not necessary. I really think this will break my smartphone usage history of not more than 3 months for each upgrade/change. (Except my iphone 4 which has been my backup phone since last year)

Just want to express my happiness and satisfaction here. rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

doh.gif what a cheapskate. using a rm11 to protect a device worth 2k plus.

do not use low quality and cheap gps holder since higher risk of falling down while driving.
the suction cup may not last long and also, it will shaky when travelling.

might as well use the RM2k device naked like a bos. if ruined, buy a new one. icon_idea.gif

SMARTPHONE USERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF MALWARE TARGETING MOBILE DEVICES AND SAFETY MEASURES TO HELP AVOID COMPROMISE
The IC3 has been made aware of various malware attacking Android operating systems for mobile devices. Some of the latest known versions of this type of malware are Loozfon and FinFisher. Loozfon is an information-stealing piece of malware. Criminals use different variants to lure the victims. One version is a work-at-home opportunity that promises a profitable payday just for sending out email. A link within these advertisements leads to a website that is designed to push Loozfon on the user's device. The malicious application steals contact details from the user’s address book and the infected device's phone number.

FinFisher is a spyware capable of taking over the components of a mobile device. When installed the mobile device can be remotely controlled and monitored no matter where the Target is located. FinFisher can be easily transmitted to a Smartphone when the user visits a specific web link or opens a text message masquerading as a system update.

Loozfon and FinFisher are just two examples of malware used by criminals to lure users into compromising their devices.

Safety tips to protect your mobile device:
When purchasing a Smartphone, know the features of the device, including the default settings. Turn off features of the device not needed to minimize the attack surface of the device.
Depending on the type of phone, the operating system may have encryption available. This can be used to protect the user's personal data in the case of loss or theft.
With the growth of the application market for mobile devices, users should look at the reviews of the developer/company who published the application.
Review and understand the permissions you are giving when you download applications.
Passcode protect your mobile device. This is the first layer of physical security to protect the contents of the device. In conjunction with the passcode, enable the screen lock feature after a few minutes of inactivity.
Obtain malware protection for your mobile device. Look for applications that specialize in antivirus or file integrity that helps protect your device from rogue applications and malware.
Be aware of applications that enable Geo-location. The application will track the user's location anywhere. This application can be used for marketing, but can be used by malicious actors raising concerns of assisting a possible stalker and/or burglaries.
Jailbreak or rooting is used to remove certain restrictions imposed by the device manufacturer or cell phone carrier. This allows the user nearly unregulated control over what programs can be installed and how the device can be used. However, this procedure often involves exploiting significant security vulnerabilities and increases the attack surface of the device. Anytime a user, application or service runs in "unrestricted" or "system" level within an operation system, it allows any compromise to take full control of the device.
Do not allow your device to connect to unknown wireless networks. These networks could be rogue access points that capture information passed between your device and a legitimate server.
If you decide to sell your device or trade it in, make sure you wipe the device (reset it to factory default) to avoid leaving personal data on the device.
Smartphones require updates to run applications and firmware. If users neglect this it increases the risk of having their device hacked or compromised.
Avoid clicking on or otherwise downloading software or links from unknown sources.
Use the same precautions on your mobile phone as you would on your computer when using the Internet.

Speaking about battery, i remember some tips that: to lengthen battery life span, avoid/minimize full charge and full drain of your lithium ion battery. Preferable, use your phone until battery dropped to 5-10%, then charge up to 95%. Full charge/ full drain will exhaust the battery even quicker.

Just a head up.

Using my note naked for few day, i think i saw few hairlines on the back cover dy.. yawn.gif

This is completely incorrect. Charge/drain anytime any percentage. The only way to prolong your battery is to plug in power 24/7 which no sane ppl will do. Just dont worry and 'rocket science' about note 2 battery already and use it and charge it whenever you need. Replace it when it no longer hold charge in future..please folks, help full stop about note 2 battery anxiety already..

shocking.gif dude are you sure with yr statement? Im not sure if im absolutely right, but i do read it somewhere sometime ago. There is some science behind how a lithium ion battery works. I understand yr layman, but things dont just simply work without a mechanism. Your reply is completely ignorance on actual facts.

My english is bad, so i don't make myself clear i guess... my points is avoid/minimize 1. full discharge; 2. full charge. but yes, you can charge it often, from 20-50%, from 5-80%, from 50-90%, no issues, and i agree often charge is better for Lithium ion battery (LIB)

QUOTE(gouken @ Nov 1 2012, 11:15 PM)
Ok lets do facts checking one by one here since i m being ignorant here and with the spirit of posting only correct info to help visitor to this thread.

1. To lengthen battery life span, avoid/minimize full charge
- You can't full charge li-ion batteries, your 100% on screen is not actual 100% charged. Modern batteries have a built in mechanism to cut off when this threshold is reached.

>>the cut off mechanism is to stop charging when the battery is "fully" charge, is it? thats what i mean by full charge. the threshold= full charge point. of course, the threshold always lower than the actual capacity. thats common sense in any science. but how well is your "stop charging" mechanism working? no way to check on that. so my head up was just for prevention. overcharges leads to irreversible chemical reaction of the electrolytes, in which forms a saturation of an oxide compound (can't remember whats the exact name) which can't be reversed to obtain the electrolytes back; thus u lose electrolytes here, means reduces the overall battery capacity bit by bit.

2. To lengthen battery life span, avoid/minimize full drain.
- Again, you cant fully drain to 0% in all ori battery,  there is a cut off reserve to avoid permanent damage to li-ion

>>this is where you are completely wrong. you cant prevent battery discharge. the discharge start at point when the battery is just manufactured in factory. your device will auto turn off when your battery reach a certain very low level. but it will continue discharging even with your device off, even if you take out the battery of your phone. similar as above, over discharges leads to irreversible reaction of the electrolytes.

3. Preferable, use your phone until battery dropped to 5-10%, then charge up to 95%
- Lithium ion chemistry prefers partial, bite-size discharge to big discharge, say 5% to 95% in your example. Your battery can have longer life if you charge it often rather than charging it in one full charge.

>>agree. i was just suggesting, because normally (at least for me) i will charge my phone when the battery is considerably low, up to the max (for me 90-95%) to be ready to serve my day. but you can charge anytime you like from what % to what %, no harms. again, my suggestion was avoid full charge and discharge only.

4. Full charge/ full drain will exhaust the battery even quicker.
- You can't.  Refer 1 and 2.

>>YES FULL DISCHARGE CAN HAPPEN

Anyway, the misconceptions on battery charging happened when we read sites with lab information on battery charging best practices than the actual current advances in battery manufacturing processes in the industry.

>> yes, double check about your misconception.
*
just a head up by the way.. lengthen battery life-span is more important than worrying how many hours your battery can lasts a day.

EDIT: correction on my terms. what i mean by "full charge" was actually "overcharged". like you leave your device charging overnight. if your battery is working good, supposedly it will stop charging when its "full".. but, again, prevention. prolong charging will also induce heat, which may lead to cell rupture.

Aiyo bro of course a battery can full discharge and dies one day if leave on table untouched for a month...unless it is a macbook air. You are missing on the context on what we are discussing. We are talking about day to day charging practice of the phone, not talking about leaving the phone discharge while you go holiday for a month. Thats why every manual you read says keep 50% charge if you battery not used for long period of time. But what im saying is that the battery will not fully discharge until unusable within your normal day to day use, otherwise you wont be using the phone.
*
biggrin.gif ya bro, i understand. apology.. maybe i was into technical somehow. but my head up is legit, a prevention measures.. but again, for the overcharge thingy, i really think prevention is still beneficial. the "stop charging" mechanism itself also clearly stated to reduce risk of potential damage to your battery due to overcharging. there is no clear cut, thus again the prevention measures. (how many times did i said prevention? tongue.gif )

I sign it last week, damn why maxis now only announce so good package, really wtf la maxis, I rather pay rm75 and get 5gb data also worth it, summore rm75 is for call/sms without the data , really angry !!!!! I sign for 2 year contract summore haizzzz
*
i also attracted to the package from maxis.. now i'm thinking to terminate the contract i just signed with digi a week ago, and take that maxis package. penalty to terminate contract will be rm400?? hope so.. i paid rm1399 for the device, +rm400 = 1799. still lower than market price. considering about it.. and i'm also tempted by the maxis data "speed" as reviewed by most users. haha.. hvn't try maxis before..
