wooo bro, <500meter on cat5e? how did you managed to run to that distance?
i tested wifi connections between KLCC 40th floor to UOA building in KL distance of more than 2km
using a simple cisco aironet 3500 on 15dbi omni.

so your distance of 500meters on wifi should be ok, but need more details on where you plan to install the
antenna and some photos of your site would be helpful.

for AP you can use linksys or buffalo with dd-wrt, directional antenna as mentioned by azmihamzah is a good choice thumbup.gif
you just have to test for physical LOS and signal attenuation at your site, good luck on your installations

there are so many GL based routers in the market now already, just bought from IT Shop in Kuantan,
most of the shops here selling around RM190~RM195, looks like new production factory has been set to mass
produce WRT54GL Linux based routers thumbup.gif
