Ok final question, whats the difference between WRT54GL, WRT54G, (are they 2 total diff models or just firmware ?) etc etc... sorry im about to get my hands on this router so just finding out more !

Sifu's, is the wireless signal from this linksys router strong and stable ?

Why want to flash with 3rd party firmware ? Isnt it best using the manufacturers firmware ?

Also, Im planning to get WRT54G Ver 5, as version 4 currently no more in production. I manage to find a someone who is still selling Version 4 but then came to understand that linksys does not provide any warranty for it anymore.

SO my question here is that can I flash/mod my firmware with DD-WRT if I get WRT54G V 5 ?

WRT54GL is Version 4 rite ?

QUOTE(ldragon @ Oct 13 2006, 11:23 PM)
rattan, Instead of buying WRT54G ver 5 why not go for WRT54GL (RM200 ~ 250) have more memory & easier to upgrade with 3rd party firmware.

Hi sifu's, I am also a part of the team now. I just got my WRT54GL V5, could not find V4 so decided to get the V5 which is way better then the WRT54G V5.

Got it in Lowyatt at RM 240 (Robust Network 3rd floor 03-2142 5213) after a small bargain. The baby comes with 3 years warranty. The sad part is the friendly sales man told me that the warranty will be avoided if flashed with a 3rd party firmware such as DD-WRT or etc.

Im so sad and according to him, Linksys can actually check if the firmware was flashed with a 3rd party previously.

Do you guys dun care about the warranty when flashing ?

thats good. Anyway , I had no choice but to void the warranty. I opened it up , ground the pin 16 [to recover the router back] , and installed a heatsink to keep the router cool !

Ok Im almost familiar with what DD-WRT got to offer. Only thing needed is now major testing.

I connected 2 pc's to my WRT54GL, then I tried moving files that were roughtly about 200MB from one pc to the other via wired network. To my surprise the estimated time shown were 70 minutes plus. Then I checked Windows Task Manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL) -> Networking. I realise that the network utilization is only like 0.24% - 0.4%.

WTF is wrong ? I never had this issue with my DLINK DI 524 even if i were transferring files via wireless.

Can someone help ?

shocking.gif I threw my old wireless router thinking that WRT53GL is good, and without wireless there is no point of having a router for me. I need a wireless as my hse is double storey and I can enjoy wireless even outside my hse.

Its not only wireless... im using a wired config also same problem. Transfer rate is soooooooooo slow for files thats moved across network.

Any resolution for this ?

Edit : I just wrote to linksys. See wat they hv to say. vmad.gif
