QUOTE(sanosizo @ May 13 2006, 11:23 AM) flashing new firmware will overwrite any previous firmware inside the router. so no worry abt the memory space. i prefer the mini version becos i dont really use other features such as voip, hotspot, etc. i've got GS V4 and the Flash size is onli 4MB, but the flash file size from ddwrt website all in excess 4MB, how does it going to fit in there.. even GS V3 or earlier has 8MB flash pls advice...

QUOTE(prasys @ May 13 2006, 09:26 PM) You need to flash it to DD-WRT prev23 mini...You need to flash mini. From mini you could upgrade to Standard ,etc. Standard is meant for those who wants IPV6 nad all other extras like Hotspot. The mini itself is pretty good... . At least you would have 200KB of memory [RAM Space] to install some programs for WRT54GS does the OS of the router execute directly from the flash memory or its uncompressed into the memory (RAM) and then run there ? coz AFAIK the OS in the flash is compressed. so for a 16MB RAM WRT54GS, the effective memory available would be less than 16MB as the OS is occupying the space. pls advice. QUOTE(goldfries @ May 15 2006, 10:18 AM) i'm using WRT54G version 2.x and DD-WRT as well. i can never reconnect connection to internet via WiFi, cos my connection sure go off and have to reconnect. so most time i do this via RJ45 connected PC. is that a bug or a feature for dd-wrt? but this problem does not happen with thibor15c + GS.v4 so i'll stick with thibor15c for now This post has been edited by jinaun: May 15 2006, 11:12 AM

QUOTE(blaxez @ Jun 6 2006, 12:31 PM) I am wondering how can I access my modem's configuration page that is connected to my WRT54G's WAN port. Can you guys help me out? u can try this method.... technically it should work of coz if ur modem and the router uses the same IP, eg. 192.168.1.1 then you should configure either ur modem or router with anohter ip.. eg 192.168.1.2 after this u should be able to access ur modem (192.168.1.1) and ur router (192.168.1.2) This post has been edited by jinaun: Jun 6 2006, 12:40 PM Attached thumbnail(s)

how does dd-wrt calculates its memory??
Total Available 13.8 MB / 16.0 MB
Free 2.6 MB / 13.8 MB
Used 11.2 MB / 13.8 MB
Buffers 1.4 MB / 11.2 MB
Cached 4.4 MB / 11.2 MB
Active 3.2 MB / 11.2 MB
Inactive 2.6 MB / 11.2 MB
====================
my router has 16mb ram, but how come it has 13.8 available.. and out of this 2.6mb is free.
and what happens to the portion sitting from 13.9 to 16mb??
please advice on the terms used like buffers, cached, active,inactive..

i bricked my router b4, still pingable but the power light keeps on flashing so i download ori firmware from linksys website, then powercycle the router, once the pinging start replying.. i immediately execute "tftp -i 192.168.1.1 PUT firmwarefile.bin" and it works for me..!!! QUOTE(azmihamzah @ Jan 9 2007, 04:16 PM) anyone has bricked their router before? care to elaborate the command to re-introduced the firmware using putty... i just bricked my router...seems the oem power adapter is not stable for firmware flashing... its not the power adapter issue, its the firefox thing.. current firefox could not properly update the firmware. causing the router to brick. read it somewhere in ddwrt wiki Please use the edit button if you wish to add in additional information - hardyboyz888This post has been edited by hardyboyz888: Jan 9 2007, 06:05 PM
