noticed that WRT54 has many models so which one do you guys recommend anyway?
do you guys use it as router + modem or just plain router/modem?
does this router really work with charm after flashed with DD-WRT like everyone said?
i've an existing linksys AG241 though

i seriously need help here sad.gif
i just bought a WRT54GL v1.1 and i flashed the router to DD-WRT v23 SP2 and straight away i connect to PC without reading the instruction and CD although it says there "run cd first before connecting cables"
now, i'm having a bit of trouble here

the layout of my internet connection:
Streamyx -> Linksys AM300 -> Linksys WRT54GL -> 2 PCs

i understood that WRT54GL still needs a modem to work with
once i plug into the "internet" port, i get no connection from my internet
but if i plug into the normal ethernet port, everything will lag a bit (ping is 500ms to yahoo)
what should i do? please advise...
thank you

*both of the routers are same IP - 192.168.1.1

did u perform a hard reset after flashing the router? Both router need to have a different ip subnet, means modem using 192.168.0.1, and router using 192.168.1.1. set ur modem in bridge mode and let the router made the ppoe connection to the internet.
Ignore the Installation CD, it won't help u much.

yes, i did
when i set modem (linksys AM300) to 192.168.0.1, i cannot login at all sad.gif

thanks waifaq
i've successfully connected my WRT54GL with AM300
but the latency is unstable
sometimes i get 300ms, sometimes 234ms...
seems like not stable compared with last time
i'll give it a try for a few days first
thanks again

i just flashed my linksys WRT54GL (previously with DD-WRT) to tomato
looks cool
anyway, there's a section in DD-WRT to set P2P in administration section but i couldn't find that option in tomato
will my torrent affect my surfing & gaming speed with tomato default settings on?

last time when i used DD-WRT, it's fine because i can limit
now, i can feel my gaming speed is affected a little

anyone here can help me with tomato firmware on linksys WRT54GL?
settings are all default, but with some changes in PPPoE, port forwarding & wireless only
when i on bitcomet, bandwidth are sucked, but bitcomet isn't moving very fast
the rest of the PCs couldn't even connect to internet
i've just flashed from 1.16 to 1.17... and yet to test

which firmware is better? DD-WRT or tomato?

At the classification section, you should add one more rule for torrent :

TCP/UDP
IPP2P: Bittorent

What I do is I set it to have the lowest priority among all my other QoS rules so that it doesn't hog the bandwidth all the time.
*
but funny, my home's WRT54GL (runs on tomato 1.15) doesn't hog bandwidth at all
i'm running on utorrent with VPN

only my office's WRT54GL has this problem when run on bitcomet
some things are fast on bitcomet... i've no choice
