My friend just bought a wrt54gl v1.1 and direct flashed to v24 standard version without go through the micro version first, so it bricked the router but fortunately can recover via tftp method.

DD-WRT is bloated up. Tomato on the other hand is much more better. But at the moment i am using openWRT. It gives me the full availability to customise the packages according to my needs. But if you want something simple then go for DD-WRT
Speaking of that , I still remember the olden days when MX510 refused to flash to DD-WRT. But now he seems to be a big fan of it ;P |

According to DD-WRT's wiki, the WRT54GL v1.1 supports all versions. I wonder if this still holds true? I was planning to flash mine with the v24 standard version. Seems like I should flash the micro or mini version first. Can anyone clarify this? |

Can anyone clarify this? for the 1st time, you must flash to mirco version first before going to other version. else, the router will be bricked, the power LED keep on flashing non-stop, but can recover it back with tftp method as shown in dd-wrt website. now my friend is running V24 standard on his WRT54GL v1.1 |

Can some1 confirm that WRT54GL 1.1 can be flash with DD-WRT v24 mega package? QUOTE(prasys @ May 26 2008, 11:29 AM) DD-WRT is bloated up. Tomato on the other hand is much more better. But now he seems to be a big fan of it ;P My linksys WRT54GL's flash history: DD-WRT --> tomato ---> OpenWRT(WR) --->OpenWRT (Kamikaze) ---> DD-WRT v24 ---> Finally back to tomato 1.19 I still find tomato is lean, fast and easy to use. It suite my daily usage as I need to constantly off my wireless (to kill off other PC's xunlei download), QoS ( for gaming mainly) and contant connect/discon to get certain IP. Everytime I did some new setting, my connection still up on tomato..but it is very annoying on DD-WRT that it need to restart the whole router causing my good IP connection changed... DD-WRT v23 and higher supports this router.
Sign into your linksys router and use the firmware upgrade web interface to update your router with dd-wrt. The stock firmware from Linksys on the WRT54GL v1 and 1.1 won't accept a firmware image over 3MB in size (you will get the error: "Upgrade are failed!"(sic) if you try) so you will need to flash the micro version of DD-WRT onto the router BEFORE flashing the standard, voip, and vpn versions. Make sure you reset the router to factory defaults in dd-wrt before you upgrade to the standard, voip, and vpn versions. (Mega builds will NOT fit on this router) If you make the mistake of not upgrading with the micro or mini version first, you will end up with a router that has a flashing power light. You will be able to ping the router, but will not be able to access the GUI. You will have to TFTP the Linksys firmware back on to the router and try again. You can download the Linksys firmware from their site. You can't TFTP the dd-wrt firmware to the router at this point. Yeah GL cannot support mega package :-) |

Im wondering if anyone got a guide on each of the setting that are included in DD-WRT. I also flashed my new DIR-300 to DD-WRT and I can say 110% satisfied as BT doesnt hang my router anymore. But still other than those normal setting that I use like NAT, WPA-PSK, many of the option especially in the WIRELESS tab is an unknown to me.
