QUOTE(osxchd @ Dec 11 2007, 10:13 AM) RC are pre beta release and have some minor problems like memory leak etc etc, if you are unsure u can just use the stable version to avoid the hassle. Not that im saying that RC is bad, they sometimes gives more features and better compability compared to the previous version. Pick your choice. |

I've one WRT54G V3.1(stated at sticker below the router), and I've been using HyperWRT 2.1b1 quite sometime already, and I have some questions to ask, hopefully any sifu here can help.
I've been using HyperWRT 2.1b1 along with cFos for internet connection optimization, but recently I saw one guy mentioned that DD-WRT can do as what cFos does, is it true? Also how come in the configuaration page I saw the firmware is v4.30.1 instead of the V3.1? Can anyone give me a guide of how to flash my current firmware to DD-WRT? I remember that u've to reset the firmware or something so just want to ask to confirm, also recommend the best DD-WRT firmware version as well. Thanks in advance. |

firmware version and ur router "hardware" version is totally different thing...
if u wish to flash to dd-wrt, i am not too sure but u should flash to original linksys firmware then only flash to dd-wrt... if u dont wan to try out the rc... get the generic broadcom standard v23s2... about cfos i hav no idea sorry... but just go to dd-wrt wiki for more info... thanks... Guys, I have some problem with my WRT54GS flashed to dd-wrt v23 sp2. It has been running fine for almost a year until my housemate recently start downloading p2p heavily. He use to have 1 download rig and now he uses 2-3 rigs all running utorrent and thunder5 (I got this readings from the UPNP page). Anyhow, he crashed my router last week, the router just hang and when I reboot it came back online loosing all my settings and streamyx password. I reconfigure everything and from that day onwards my WRT54GS is slow. Slow as in it takes my 5-8 seconds to load the admin page. Last time it use to be 1 second or less. Any idea what happen?

I used to have this problem aslo. Router work fine for 1 years + then suddently become frequent hang, laggish and other problem. Tried to reflash still the same.I would suggest U, do a hard reset..then reflash. If u have done that and still cant solve. I suggest U give tomato firmware a try. It work for me....now my router work flawlessly... This post has been edited by mikelanding: Dec 27 2007, 09:52 AM |

hard reset.. do you mean pressing the power button for > 5 second?
Will this go back to WRT54GS original firmware or go back to DD-WRT clean default state? I might need to download dd-wrt v23 sp2 first if it will revert back to buffalo's firmware. Btw, just a quick check. I am using streamyx RM66 package (512k) so I set in my QoS default bandwidth to be 400 down and 200 up. Is that ok? |

I am using streamyx RM66 package (512k) so I set in my QoS default bandwidth to be 400 down and 200 up. Is that ok? You need to do hard reset. This is how it works Firstly , press and hold the reset button for more then 5 seconds (you should see DMZ Light up or power LED blinking continuously , if you see this. You have restarted the modem successfully). Next up , you should flash back to the default firmware. Just go to upgrade and flash back to a linksys firmware (This step is optional). Then once you are in the linksys frimware , flash back to DD-WRT and it should be okay The other option is to go with Tomato. Tomato offers a better QoS service and its not bloated as DD-WRT. I would suggest you to try tomato a shot. |
