Arrest of an AV president sending shock waves through Japan’s porn industry

On October 7, Tokyo Metropolitan Police collared the president and a manager of an AV (that is, adult video) production house, located in Bunkyo Ward, for violating prostitution and pornography statutes regarding child welfare following revelations that a 16-year-old girl was recruited by the firm to star in multiple porn DVDs.
Note: The Mainichi Shimbun (Oct. 8) lists the names of the suspects as Akihiro Yukimura, 28, and 25-year-old Toshiyuki Ogawa.
The weekly explains that in January the president placed classified ads on mobile phone sites for recruitment purposes and subsequently brokered a deal with a 16-year-old from Chiba Prefecture.
“The girl showed her sister’s driver’s license at the interview,” says a person related to the investigation. “The manager was deceived since her age was shown to be 20. So he aggressively recruited her, telling her that she would receive roughly 800,000 yen a month in wages. He then created a profile indicating that she is 23 years old and featured her in a number of films.”
The magazine says that the investigative team is showing some empathy with the president since he appears to have been legitimately deceived — and, quite frankly, the gal may have something of a baby face but her knock-out body is certainly not that of a teenager.
In four months, Hanakiren-chan (華希れん), as was her working name, made 19 films and garnered quite a following in a number of genres. (The article includes an image from installment 22 in the “Vanilla – Tanned Gal’s Buttocks” (小麦ちゃんのお尻) series of DVDs as released on the Prestige label. Dark-skinned and wearing leopard-pattern stockings, Hanakiren-chan is seen thrusting her rear end at the camera in the photo on the video’s cover, an image that a quick Web search reveals to be a recurring shot in the very extensive series.)
The actress had an apartment arranged by the production company and appeared to be living quite an extravagant existence — a far cry from her days of hanging out in the entertainment districts of Chiba City and Funabashi after finishing middle school in April of last year, continues the weekly.
“But once she started gaining popularity, speculation about her age began,” explains a local beat writer. “Then, all of a sudden, she disappeared without a trace. Not long thereafter her friend called a child pornography hot line, and that’s what lead to the arrests.”
The Mainichi article reports that sales for 15 DVDs starring the actress, who is now 17, have totaled 28,000 units.
Shukan Jitsuwa says that the president eventually discovered her true age following a phone call he placed to her parents regarding unpaid rent on her apartment. “He then cooperated with the police when they came knocking to confiscate the DVDs of her films,” says the same beat writer.
Update: Shukan Asahi Geino (Oct. 28) reports that DVDs starring Hanakiren-chan are currently fetching 12,000 yen in online auctions. (K.N.)
