What I did was buy a neck float for my baby and let her get use to the water.
I can't remember whether it was 4 mths old or 6 mths old when we first let her swim.

Now we are telling her to kick her leg, use her hand etc to move and she is slowly picking up (still with her neck float). Although not the proper swimming training regime of course. What do you expect from a baby wink.gif

Normal pool.
It is the risk you have to take. Chlorine is the least of your problem. Diseases is more scary, but so far no issue (cross finger). Then again like I say, this is the risk you have to take unless you have own swimming pool.

IMHO, early swimming lesson has more pros than cons. Anyway, tomorrow will be lesson 1. Let's see how it turns out.

teach an infrant swim is a waste of money.

have a swimming session with infant is just to bring fun to the baby. As those earlier advise, get a float and play in a swallow pool.

After lesson 1, it is more than just 'get a float and play in a swallow pool.' and ' buy swimsuit, buy float, play away. drunk whole head in '.

I am glad to say my baby loves the water and was able to float himself after 20 minutes. Not bad for a 4 month old.

Lesson held in a normal pool, not in the shallow baby pool for 1 hour. Only the below float was used. biggrin.gif

Most baby shops will have it. Try Mothercare, got a wide range of swimsuit.

Swim suit and swim diapers are 2 different items. Swim suit to keep warm but swim diapers for poo. Swim suit not a necessary unless water is cold.

hi lunchtime, where is the lesson? i've heard of the water babies and had wanted to start my LO when he was about 6mo. but no teachers in KL dared to take him in. by the time he's 3yo, he knows water & develop a fear for depth, now have to rebuild his water confidence. i vowed if i ever have a next baby, i definately want to start as early as possible.

for those who wonder why we crazy mummies don't seemed to give our babies a life, do google up this term "water babies". babies who swim are not about olympics, it's about making use of human's natural ability to breath under water b4 we grow up too much & forgot about it. water babies is to prevent drowning. for babies to be able to swim himself/herself for a few minutes, in case he/she fell into water and in time for us, adults to realise it & jump into water & save them.

neckfloats and all that jazz are rubbish "invented" by chinese business man to capitalise on the little "emperor/emperess" phenomena.

Added on October 28, 2012, 10:06 pmbtw, huggies has got swimming diapers, a little pricey, but so far it's the only brand i've seen.

Mine is held at Cheras, taught by http://www.facebook.com/SoccerTeamErikaPeres. I searched and asked around, not easy to find instructors in KL.

After the 1st lesson, I tried at home swimming pool, my LO absolutely loves it but he vomited after 30 minutes because we fed him 10 minutes before his swimming. Lesson learned, feed him 1.5 hours-2 hours before his swim.

Later today, lesson 2.

Huggies swimming diapers cost around $30 for 10 pieces, not cheap. I wonder if there are alternatives.

I agree with glenelg, my purpose to let LO learn to swim to primarily for safety and secondly to let the LO burn off some energy. LO sleeps like a log after swimming.
