Swap external sdcatd to internal memory

It is the kernel that must be init.d enabled that is crucial not the rom
Most custom roms now has kernel init.d enabled not stock rom
If you want double assurance just flash perseus kernel before flash the swap zip

Kies is sync software ( buthonestly is lousy n I said is shit software) n can be used to update official rom when available. Success rate updating ota is 50/50
Odin is software to flash official rom, kernel , even modem. It is a 100% good solution to flash such stuffs. If your phone is rooted n with cwm installed these will be removed after flash
There is also an app mobile odin that does same stuff but need rooted phone. Convenient as you do not need pc

This is the best way to backup. I take effort to answer you as I know you are iphone user

1. Root phone and install CWM ( clockworkmod recovery). Boot to recovery mode ( simultaneously press power+vol up+home button). Release the 3 buttons till you see the second Samsung logo splash screen, From the recovewry menu select backup - you can choose backup to internal sdcard or external sdcard ( better to use external). This si what we called nandroid backup. Your whole phone rom plus all its data will be 100% backup at the stage of your backup. Restore the whole rom through this recovery too and you get back exacyly what your phone satatus was at point of backup
This method is very good if your phone failed to restart or freeze while rebooting. A 100% definite step you must do before flashing any new stuffs on your phone

2. Use app Titanium Backup pro ( costs only measly US$ 6 only) : this backup all your default sytem and 3rd party apps plus all its associated data. You can also use this app to extract the apk from your nandroid backup. There are tons of features in this app - too long to list here. It is such a good app, it is the only android app i paid another 4 times to support the developer. Restoring apps can be done selectively or in batches , again many options available. You can choose to select backup to internal or external sdcard

ODIN does NOT do any backup functions
