Auditioned the Z7 at 313 Somerset, using my AK100II.
As @Ask_Yip mentioned, this is a power hungry can as I almost had to crank the volume knob on my AK to the max.
The sibilance on the demo set is still pronounced, although the treble is a bit rolled-off.
Did not try the ZX1 and HPA-3 combo to power the Z7 as I have no intention of buying both of them

This will be my closed-can for home usage, so most of the time it will be powered from Oppo HA-1.

Can't really compare the SQ as I sold my AK120 ages ago...
But UI-wise, the AK120 felt like stone-age away
Size and shape, still prefer the AK120. Small and looks classy.

Collected my pre-order MDR-Z7 after work today.
Now burn-in time....

Treble head looks elsewhere
It's a dark sounding phone, a bit like LCD-2 pre-fazor SQ.
The bass doesn't hit as hard or as deep as your TH900, nor as clean as the LCD-X, but it has a lot of low frequency rumble.
Soundstage-wise, not as wide as the TH900/600 but still quite good for a closed-back can.

It has some mid-bass bloom, so the bass sometimes can bleed into the mids.
The low mids is slightly more pronounced, so it gives body to the vocal, although not as lush as the LCD-3.

The upper mids and trebles will only come to play when the music calls for it, but sometimes you might have to really look for it.
This might not be some people cup of tea, so better audition first if you really love your treble

All in all, a very good phone for relaxation and not really for critical listening.
Not really recommended if this will be your only headphone.

Comfort and built quality is definitely top notch.
To me, more comfortable and better built than my previous TH600, but still loose out to HD800

Cannot expose to sunlight, scratches are easily seen.

But sure looks nice, compared to the boring black
