1st try oil co like shell, chevron, talisman, aramco, petronas, murphy, hess, exxon etc.
if no luck u still can try oil services co like schlumberger, cggveritas, halliburton, fugro, geoservices, pgs, paradigm etc.
if still no luck can try local small2 co like crest, misc etc.
if u wanna fast development of ur career starts with small co then jump 2 big2 wan after 3-5 years. coz it's kinda hard 2 throttle ur way in big co during ur early career...
1 more thing, make sure u got 3 pointer & above & master english communication skills. ur luck is out there bro...

Just got my confirmation to join Big Red as a MWD/LWD Engineer today, going to be based in kl/miri.  rclxms.gif

Still considering it tho, since the basic salary is way lower than what I'd expected. For a fresh grad/new entrants, the basic pay is slightly lower than that of a fresh grad PETRONAS engineer.

I always assumed that service companies give more basic salary than that of operators, but guess I'm mistaken this time. Their HR assured me that the total monthly pay (basic + offshore allowance) will be much more than that, but I dunno. Can someone give me advice on this?

Decisions, decisions. Chances like this don't come often, I know. But somehow the basic pay issue doesn't sit well with me.  hmm.gif

just go bro... u r freshies. gain experience & after 2 years test ur market. you will easily earn RM later....

not just that.
Geology from UM, UKM or Geophysics from USM or Physics from any Uni also can but it is more to exploration & service.
There's a lot of activities in exploration this few years & definitely in another 10 or 20 years.

ur definitely rite! rclxms.gif
btw technology is advance now & it is possible 2 get oil from deepwater area.
from what we have now, oil will reach its peak by 2020.
but by 2020 they'll definitely find another well through exploration & oil won't finished...
it will took another 100 years to completely suck the oil until dry & we won't have to worry bout that becoz we already dead... biggrin.gif

that simple huh.. i apologise for the silly question  wink.gif  and 1 more silly question. most of the O&G companies are allocated at KL?
*
yeah most of it because the main player (petronas) is in kl
and most of the most of it near the city centre (KLCC)

i heard it is 3.8k for starting pay, regardless of what department you're in.

*
3.8k for basic + contractual bonus / 12 months + other supplimentary pay = near 5k

Guys what do you think about this?
1) Subsea Engineer with one of the biggest Operators around. Based in Miri. Salary about 2x more than Option 2 below. Less travelling, more office based.
2) Completion Engineer with one of the Big 4 service companies. Based in KL. More travelling around the region due to hands-on nature of the work.

Which one would you choose? Cheers.
*
i choose no 1.
btw, no 2 is what company?

Mancy, Option 2 - it's with one of what I would consider the Big 4 in the services industry (Schlumberger, Halliburton, Weatherford, Baker).  smile.gif
*
the big 4 is not too big now...
maybe the recession have an impact to them. one of my fren axed out from schlumberger last month... pity him

Yeah SLB are well-known for their high pay and no nonsense ruthless approach to hiring/sacking people.

But in recession, when some people lose their jobs, there will be others who stand to gain. Currently Shell are still hiring due to their 'Malaysianisation' program as a counter to the falling oil prices and recession, ie. send the foreigners home and recruit cheaper locals to replace them.
*
it's not a wise decision to jump a boat now during this recession. better stay with present company at least until mid 2010.
btw, i won't work 4 shell ever even if they can pay me a lot.
