Not much difference actually. Both of them are powerhouses in the oilfield service industry. Technically, any service that SLB has, Halliburton can match it as well with their very own tools and equipment and vice versa.

HOWEVER from the career perspective, the difference can be very significant. (eg. work culture, job security, $$$ and prospect)

It wouldn't matter much to you right now because i think first u need some experience and exposure in the field first before start thinking about comparing companies.

For big companies, RSO are trained internally and usually are part of the normal crew wheter from wireline or logging. They do not specifically hire a RSO for an RSO's job since you need to be able to know and use the tools first.

Life in Brazil? Awesome man. Lots of hot latino ass and entertainment. Just stay away from those favelas and slums and you'll be alrite.

As for work culture, i think every where is pretty much standardized and streamlined in SLB. Generally, if you do want to compared with the work culture of Asian countries, i think South Americans like to take things slow and easy.

Start learning Portuguese and dancing if you do want to blend in with the community.

Look dude, you want an oilfield job, and now that you got it and you are worried you cant cope with the pressure and the demands of the job?

I sincerely hope that you didnt receive an offer to work in Halliburton wireline logging because you will have to handle some really nasty radioactive substance.
Yes, there will be some controlled and containable radioactive exposure in your work, as for mandul wise, it rarely happens unless you are silly enough to ignore the safety procedures and put it inside your side pocket.

NO you cant move to office if you don like the field job. Your social life will go down the drain for sure. You'll spend more time travelling in aeroplanes, boats and helicopters than in your own car. Must at least 3 years of offshore experience before you even think of that. And that also you need to fight with 10-20 other engineers to get an office based job.

Think you are UP to it?

When you work for service company, there is no life. Average lifespan there is 3.5 years smile.gif. If you make it over Year 1 you're ok, if you make it over Year 3 and you jump grades annually you're company material. The only reason I left because I decided to have more time for family, so now am with the client rather than service company. Even in support, procurement I end up flying weekly to visit all my site office and you do clock more flying miles than you drive a car.

When you're single go all out and do it, when you're married and having kids, the idea of travelling to remote places with poor amenities are hardly appealing. For Malaysians, double whammy when your kids start schooling, you're life is practically at the mercy of the company since your kids would be in a different school system that costs 30K per annum per kid.

Its not for everyone, the smarter ones, learn everything and start joining other local firms just before the kids start schooling. The ones who decide not to decide and follow can never come and work within the country unless you're called back home to work on short term assignment (2-3 years).

Its your future career, do decide correctly. My philosophy is very simple, if you're really good, you can make money anywere. You don't need to be an expat forever and live from your suitcase if you plan ahead.

Completion does not deal with radioactive substance, or explosive substances, or chemicals. Since you'll be based in Kemaman, chances are you will be at the workshop redressing, pressure testing, making up etc completion tools there.

Completions is the stage right before production can begin, completion tools are the equipments required to be installed/run-in downhole during completion.

Hope that's clearer, cheers.

There's RA source but miniscule, I haven't seen or known anyone in Wireline or Completions having cancer yet, one of them has worked for 30 years, 15 of which taking care of the RA source. That's what the radiation badge is for.
