Think again. Being a diver is a very risky job. That's why you're paid a lot of money and plus you only work for 5 hours a day, maybe less. Sometimes when the weather conditions is bad, you don't work at all but still getting paid, sweet isn't it?

You don't have to become a diver first before becoming an ROV pilot. I have met a lot of guys who went to become a trainee after graduating from some engineering diploma course. And yes, it does help if you're good with video games, hand and eyes coordination is important.

true, but being ROV pilot u need the experience diving for a few hundred hours. at least that is what my boss told me. btw, im working in a human resource firm which specializes in mobilizing ppl to work in offshore industries, with at least 5 years working experience in offshore work.

risky or not as far as the statistics are concerned, there are zero casualty because of accident in diving in malaysia for the past 10 years. yes, there are death, but because of foolhardiness and stubbornness. zero accident.

edited: working as practical trainee, im finishing my bachelor's degree.

Why do ROV pilots need to dive? I thought what ROV pilots do are sit some where in the rig, control your machine from the control room, besides that you are responsible for repairing and maintaining your baby machine. That's why it's called ROV right?
*
essentially yeah, that's their job. but what ROV does underwater is what exactly divers are supposed to do, be it salvage, putting on clamps etc. so the ROV operator's work is similar to a diver, albeit they did not dive, but the ROV itself dive. So the experience gained from diving beforehand is a must, or at least the basic idea of diving and what to do down there. at least that's what the job scope is, according to the manual i read in my office.

and ROV operators must take some courses to qualify as ROV operators. but what im saying is just the path divers had to take to be ROV operators. if ppl with mech eng degrees, i dunno la.. im business admin dgree la. dun care but engineering, let the ppl good in math take care of engineering laugh.gif

Bleed_X,

Seems like you heard quite a lot of 'GREAT' stories from your diver friends. Why don't you just join the diving academy straight away instead? I don't think having a business admin degree is a requirement for divers.

planning to after i graduate in 6 months time. atlis i got degree if the diving thing dont work out.

The retailers only earn about RM0.08 per litre, no matter how much government increase the price. The increased of the petrol price (the subsidy) goes back to government, and their cost to open a petrol station is cost ~1 million, plus pay salary to staffs, electricity, water, phone....

yeah, they earn revenue from the conveniences store stuffs. petrol selling revenue so small...
