I wanted to ask if a person with degree other than geology, engineering or business can apply for a job in this industry?

Can, if you know someone in the filed, like your uncle or godather, or else, try your luck just send out the letters, the chance you get the interview will be less than 1 %....good luck. cool2.gif

Hi every body

I work as a field engineer doing drilling services to be specific working with the drilling waste management  stuff with one of the local contractor/consultant company. I am looking to jump my career as a Drilling Engineer with operator company eg: Shell, Exxon, Hess ,Murphy Oil, talisman n etc..I think with what I had in drilling services operation exposure, its quite enough to further my career as Drilling Engineer..Any Drilling Engineer or any Upstream Oil& Gas man here in tis forum? I want ur good advise, Lets share with me now =)

- Which position is more demand in oil and gas industry for such a long term between Drilling Engineer and Drilling Fluid Engineer (Mud Engineer)?

- Mind to share with me and others, usually how is the minimum working experience required to be consider for this position?

- How much the salary range for a candidate with 3-4 years working experiences for this area- drilling engineer? How about range of RM 15k – 20k, is it relevant with operator company ? Coz I want 2 know the range for my knowledge for future interview for this position =)

- If you know, among operator oil & gas company in Malaysia (Petronas/Shell/Exxon,Murphy Oil/ Talisman)which pay the highest salary for this particular position
THX!!!

What is your qualification??? which company your in?

1. Drilling Engineer, get chance to promote to Supervisor or "boss" in office, good money.
Drilling Fluids Engineer, good money if you are a consultant, some of my "uncle level" friends working for more than 30 years and still in field.
2. Since the economy recession last year, as far I know no more recruit for fresh graduate for some oil company and drilling fluids company too. (now should be better)
3. You mean in drilling engineering or DWM stuff? these 2 are totally different job.
4. Murphy.......then last will be Petronas.

Not really. But actually some small company can give more bonus than the big one. Form what I know, some O & G companies frozen their staff salary increment for the last 2 years. But now thing is getting better.
