depends if u r hired into position or hired into training...
Last info I have, EPMI fresh will get 3.9k basic

suggestion: dont take engineering
chemical usually in refinaries...
yep.. and so do process engineers for offshore

offshore? very very seldom... usually in design stage of plants/pipelines
Depends.. as service providers yes, since all PLC running on PCBs. For operators, u can do maintenance or design, (FEED, BFD, etc)

Aircraft maintenance can earn more than gas turbine maintenance, you sure you want this?
*
Gas turbine engineers, or as they are called, rotating equipment engineers are aplenty. Good rotating equipment engineers (specialist) are few and far between (in malaysia at least). You have to know all kind/brands like the back of your hand... RR,Solar,GE,Dresser rand, Siemens.. most of the manufacturers' field engineers in malaysia are basically expats.. But, if u know how much even local specialist are paid, i think you would retract your statement..

so actually how much they pay?for a gas turbine rotating engineer? drool.gif  drool.gif

U can get 5 figure basic with min 6 yrs exp. Thats with big operators. OEM FSR basic a bit lower, but they have OT and other allowances that more than make it up for the lower basic.

Sanggul Emas is one of Petronas licensed local pump distributors. Doubt that they manufacture pumps on their own, but few internationally branded pumps used offshore are supplied by them.

seems like u have the thinking of when u had intern at that certain company, u will have a very big chance of returning to it to work... but, it is a wrong concenpt which everyone believe in... working and intern is 2 different things and most of the big companies dun care a d*** on where u intern... wat counts is how u perform during the inverview, and not where u intern... and for a great salary, it will also depends on ur position, job performance and so on, and not where u intern again... wink.gif
*
Not true, to some extend. An intern was assigned to me last year. End of intern period, his work was evaluated, bla bla.. and provisionally accepted to become a staff once he graduated, provided that he graduates with min 2nd class upper. Sadly, he didnt make it. Oh yeah, he got paid 1k - 1.5k/mnth allowance throughout the intern period.

But then again, not every co doing the same.

Oil and Gas industry may bring you the big bucks, but there are many trade-offs.
One of the most obvious, the time spent with your family and friends are definitely lesser.
Having spent 8 months interning in an O&G company, it definitely wasn't all fun and joy there. The stress and workload is high, the working hours are long, and basically, oil and gas companies are situated at remote places, i.e. no fun.

However, if you really want to venture into this field for the sake of money, go for servicing companies such as Halliburton, Schlumberger, Baker Hughes etc.
Operating companies such as Petronas and Shell does not have that high pay compared to servicing companies.

For example: basic pay for fresh grad in Halliburton RM4.5k+, in schlumberger RM5k+
In petronas, it is only RM 4k, Shell RM 3.8k

But you have to set your priorities right.
When I interned there, my collegues always tell me, yes the pay is good, but you get shit all the time, no life.

Just my 2 cents. smile.gif
*
Wow.... summary for ages old and one of the most lucrative industries based on 8 months of internship. Not even the sky is the limit for you... notworthy.gif ... tongue.gif

Cmon, dont be sarcastic. It's just what my collegues are going through and just wanna share with all of you. Sharing is caring. Different people are entitled to different opinion and I'm sure everyone is free to share their opinion here as well.

Well, there are so many O&G co. around, so many fields, some work offshore, some work in the office. Some work in remote places while others enjoy the buzz of city life. So, in a way, you choose to become what you are... Got to lie on the bed that you've made, right?

Hi OnG seniors,

I have some doubts about the position Oil & Gas Valve Engineer. I have gone through the job responsibilities. So I think this will be a dirty job and also dangerous job if being reckless/irresponsible. This position is at Cameron. My doubts are:

Do they send this employee off shore for months or long term? Or frequent traveling?
Is this more of a company site work or a customer site visiting job?
Long working hours?
Hows the pay for freshie?
*
Cameron, or cooper cameron is one of the leading valves manufacturer in O&G. I would take cameron any day than say, Hawa tongue.gif. Dont know about working environment though.. but most clients would have maximum number of days you can be offshore, between 45-60 days, if among the operators. I doubt you would be put on roster since most of the installation are done at yard, but you may have to go to offshore once in awhile for site survey or adhoc jobs.

Is this job dangerous? I presume it is since it is Oil & Gas Valve Engineer...So the valve is either flammable or highly hazardous.

Does it require the employee to climb up and down to check valves and piping?

"Diving" if offshore? lol

So this job is like 50-70% office work and the rest customer site visits for release and stuff like that?
*
bro... i dont work for cameron, so i dont know how's the working condition. My speculation is based on a typical service provider/ OEM profiling. And no, the valves are not flammable but the hydrocarbon is..

heheh, you misunderstood me, I'm heading into EP - onshore based, was afraid of getting placed in ECS (since everyone says its crap)

but since apparently its 2 distinctly different area, I'm relieved smile.gif
*
if your discipline is subsurface, they will not put you in ECS. At worst, they will put you in production directorate doing PS,PT or RE

But I hear when you work offshore it's like staying in a hotel in the middle of the sea.

Unlimited food supplies, drinks, satellite TVs, internet, gymnasium, playstation 2, can also go fishing in the evening. Good money good life. Just you will be seing the same guys (most likely guys) everyday.
