Here's a quick mod I recently did. So here goes.

Masking the window panel for enlargement work. Already had a window but wanted bigger. Bigger is always better. brows.gif brows.gif

Updates.

Back to the window.
wanted a big huge window. As big as I cud possibly cut. Right to the limits.
So here it is, the biggest window I've ever cut.

user posted image

Acrylic for the window cut to approximate size of window. Rough cut. Still need to test fit n dremel+file down to exact size for window. Also marking the fan hole.

It's all about the user's hands man. Like the saying goes "Dont blame the song, blame the singer". laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

my cuts r all done with rm50 Agoniama jigsaw but nice n steady oso wat. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif But I'm gonna upgrade to a B&D jigsaw with adjustable speed soonz so I can cut easier without having to on off on off to adjust blade speed. Go ahead n buy the jigsaw. It's OK 1. Cuts just as well only more difficult for the user to control speed.

Test fitting the fan to make sure the screw holes line up with the fan. Perfect. No need to file the holes. Luckily, if not hafta do more work n do sumore filing.

user posted image

Test fitting the acrylic on the back of the window to make sure it fits perfectly. This is without the double sided tape.

Ya of course. If u use cheap blades the cuts r gonna look like a mad dog chewed on the panels. I use B&D n Bosch blades. I also throw away the blade after using it on 3 panels. More than that n it gets chewed up again.

Updatesssssssssssss.

Finally gonna get back to the Rising Sun. The interesting bit about the worklog. Hehehe. Unfortunately I only got 1 pic of the actual cutting of the sun.

Coz dremeling work involves a whole lotta aluminum oxide dust from the cutting discs n also the iron dust from the metal panel. It's a very, very smelly, dusty, messy n sticky job. Dremeling metal cuts is the worst thing about case mods. If u cut alu panels will b worse coz the alu dust is even worse. It's smelly too.

Then u oso get really sticky, sweaty n smelly coz u hafta wear the gas mask to stop from inhaling all that harmful dust. There's also the mandatory goggles for eye safety. So in the current HOT weather, it's not funny having to breathe tru the gas mask n also wearing the goggles which gets all steamed up. I've modified the goggles to allow more ventilation but still gets real steamy under the mask n goggles. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Coz of all the dust n stuff, I forgot to take more pics of the cutting process. Sry guys. My whole body was covered in that horrible dust. So I din wanna spoil my camera by holding it with my dusty hands. I managed to get this 1 pic coz I was taking a coffee break then.

user posted image

Well, here's the Rising Sun after I finished cutting n filing. Phew! That was a whole lotta hard work. Lotsa satisfaction though. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif Feels so good looking at it coz it used to b a plain old panel. It's now a fully personalised panel.

user posted image

This is a pic of the Rising Sun with the acrylic thats gonna be stuck behind it. Sry I was in such a big rush I even forgot to take pics of mounting the acrylic to the Rising Sun.

Here's a pic of the window n Rising Sun waiting for final details like fan, acrylic install n all.

For a panel like the Rising Sun, u can still use just a jigsaw but it's a lot more difficult. Yes the Dremel rox n it's really essential for all hobbyists. BUT remember this 1 very important fact that most ppl dont tell u. It consumes cutting discs like nobody's biz. N that costs a bomb. So use the dremel if u want the very best quality in ure cuts, but it's expensive.

Here's sum updates on Rising Sun. Really trying to complete the rig now. It's still air cooled n no bling bling stuff at the moment. The water cooling set comprises a monster 120mmX3 radiator, n a DangerDen water block. Meanwhile the old skool DangerDen water block needed some refurbishment.

Here's how the block looked like when I got it. I was like OMG! What happened to this block? Terribly corroded. Haf a look at the block b4 refurbishment n lapping.

Well, it was a full day's worth of work. Just need a lot of patience to do it. A lot of dremeling n hand rubbing, rubbing, rubbing, sanding, sanding, sanding. laugh.gif laugh.gif Any1 of u oso can do lar. Just need time n patience. Wanted to take pix of the process too but like the cutting of the sun, it was really messy. My hands were full of sand grit, polishing compound n all. Dowanna ruin my camera by touching it with all that nasty stuff on my hands.

having a dremel is easy, if u can get the polishing tool for the dremel, then it's real fast to make it look new again

Yeah I haf the full B&D polishing kit. It's a really nice kit. Makes life a lot easier. But the actual lapping of the heatsink base.............. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif
That's the labour intensive bit.

B&D is more quality lar obviusly...i had 1...rm2XX forgot how much i bought it and more heavier than others but if ur are not cutting anything heavier than a piece of acrylic then its not worth it.
