Hi mazda folks,

I'm contemplating getting the new mazda 3 sometime end of this year. Can anyone comment:
1)Ride comfort - Is it hard and harsh on the 18inch rims ?

2)Is the car noisy i.e. outside road noise can be heard inside the cabin while driving at high speed?

3) What is the 0-100km/h performance in seconds, performance ?

4) Does the i-stop restarts the engine smoothly without jerk and pause, the moment you take off from a standstill?

Thanks.

1) Tyre is using Sport Maxx TT (Dunlop), so you can guess, same as all other High Performance Tyre, it is NOT meant for comfort Sedan driving  tongue.gif . It give you the enhance road feedback and driving precision, good cornering.....good grip on both dry and wet

2) Tyre noise definitely is there

3) 0-100km/h, around 8s

4) direct fuel injection to restart, slight jerk is expected

1) it's rather bumpy compared to most car mostly because of the rims, but honestly, the driving, low and comfortable cockpit design kinda cancel the bumpy ride feeling out if u really enjoy driving.

2) Yeap, the noise is pretty bad when h go above 90km/h. Thisproblem can be solved quite easily, get some car soundproofiNg workshop to install some soft material around the Tyre arch, underbOdyssey or even inside the engine compartment. I believe it would cost u about 500 for a really pro ones.

3) Hmmm.. the rim seems to be giving alil problem here as well.. the large size makes pick up alil more heavy to get by. I'm driving my partner's previous Gen facelifted 1.8 altis, with it's cvt + dual vvti,  throttle respond are significantly better than my m3..

4) after driving around for sometime, u kinda get to used to the right way of letting ur brakes go to reduce the slight jerk when restarting ur engine, almost to none. But Yea, at first it could be annoying, especially when you're on a terrible jam, I normally switch it off manually on jams..  useful on traffic lights thou.. I get the "wth" face from motor riders sometimes when my engine restarts next to them.

Still hasn't got my car bad.. kinda miss him ffs.. sad.gif

Thank you guys for the valuable opinions. It gives me an insight of the car now. Will go for a test drive and decide. icon_rolleyes.gif

1. The ride is on the harsh side, no two ways about it. Mind you it's definitely not unbearable and you do get used to it, but I'm certain it's the most harsh in its class. In terms of the way the car feels, the chassis is really stiff and taut - this makes it handle really well IMHO.

2. Quite a lot of tyre noise, but as almost everyone else here has pointed out I think the stock tyres are extra noisy and a major contributor to this issue. The general soundproofing could be better as well, but I guess Mazda compromised on that in order to lighten the car. Noise hasn't been the biggest issue for me, especially once you have the radio switched on and people in the car etc

3. I haven't tried this myself, but the official line from Mazda is 8.2 secs I believe?

4. It's a very smooth restart, I daresay smoother than the BMW restart (my only previous experience with stop/start engines). After a while you also get used to the braking pressure (if you don't brake hard enough, the iStop usually doesn't kick in), so you can actually control the iStop pretty easily - I find this is really useful in traffic when I don't really want the car stopping/starting all the time.

Hope you find this useful.

Thank you anandkrishnan. I have the general idea now. It's impressive the car can do 8.2 seconds which is typically in the league of turbocharged cars (and beating the peugeot 408 turbo) and higher capacity NA engines. Probably changing to soft compound tyres i.e Michelin Energy XM2 etc should also help reduce the road noise. Maybe when someone here changes the tires, they can post a feedback. I'll just have to decide now if I can accept the relatively harsh and a little noisy ride and if it's within my threshold, more so, when paying a slight premium for this C-segment. Will go for a test drive and decide. Overall, I'm actually impressed after reading the reviews, safe for these 2 concerns mentioned. On a separate issue, what is the safe colour to choose? I heard the soul red was engineered by mazda for their cars. It's inevitable in KL driving, everyone will experience some untoward incidents. Do normal workshops have the soul red colour in case the need arises to respray or touch up the bumper?
